Mehlhaff were held Monday, July 4, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at Friedens Reformed Church in Tripp, with the Rev. Greg Way officiating. Music was furnished by Scott Mehlhaff and Sharon Brandt, soloists, and Shelly Finck, organist. Interment was in the church cemetery, with Goglin Funeral Home, Tripp, in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were her grandchildren. Velda Edna Mehlhaff was born Monday, March 5, 1928, on the Frey homestead to Emanuel and Louise (Weisser) Frey. She was baptized into the Reformed faith April 6, 1928, and confirmed June 5, 1942. She graduated from the eighth grade at Lake Point. On April 3, 1949, she married Ruben Mehlhaff. She helped Ruben on their farm southwest of Tripp. After Ruben died April 3, 1987, she moved to Yankton, where she worked at the Sacred Heart Daycare, made doughnuts at Sunshine and cleaned homes. In 1999, she moved to the Pine Lane Assisted Living Center, and in 2001 she moved to the Springfield Assisted Living Center. On May 26, 2005, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society, Tripp. She was a member of the Friedens Reformed Church and also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She died Thursday, June 30. She attained the age of 83 years, three months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emanuel and Louise; stepfather, Paul Weisser; husband, Ruben; brother, Harvey Weisser; sister, Shirley Bloch; five brothers-in-law, Frank Bloch, Herbert Mehlhaff, Paul Mehlhaff, Edwin Mehlhaff and Otto Guthmiller; and a sister-in-law, Wyona Guthmiller.
