Lloyd's WWII love letters home to his wife Irma have been immortalized in book form by his sons David and Dale. It is entitled "All my Love, Forever: Letters Home From a World War II Citizen-Soldier".
OBITUARY:
Lloyd D. Lane
Lloyd D. Lane, 67, a decorated Army veteran who took part in the D-day landings at Omaha Beach, Normandy Invasion in France, died at 5:13 p.m. December 2 in Home Hospital at Lafayette. He had been ill two years and in the hospital for one week.
Mr. Lane served with the U.S. 29th Infantry during World War II. He received the Invasion Arrowhead and five battle citations.
Born Feb. 4, 1920, in Morocco, he went to the Lafayette area from Morocco 41 years ago.
A graduate of Morocco High School, he attended Purdue University.
Mr. Lane retired from Alcoa in March 1982. He was a machinist in the tube mill there for 36 years.
His first marriage was Aug. 31, 1941 in New Albany to Irma M. Voyles. She died August 3, 1974. On June 27, 1975, he married Annie Maude Perdue in Dayton. She survives.
He was a member and deacon of Dayton Memorial Presbyterian Church; member and past master of Miller Masonic Lodge 268 of Clark Hills; member of Tippecanoe County Genealogical Society; Lafayette Geographical Society; Alcoa 25-year club and Alcoa Retirees Club.
Surviving with his widow are two daughters, Diana Lane, Lafayette, and Mrs. David (Donna) Scanlon of Clark Hills; three sons, David Lane of Alexandria, Dale Lane, Lafayette, and Dennis Lane of Clark Hills.
Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Darryl (Wanda) Clendenen of Lafayette; and two stepsons, James Venable of West Lafayette and Richard Venable of Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. Delmar (Thelma) Henderson of Conroe, Texas, and Mrs. Dorothy Cory of Hesperia, Mich.; and three brothers, Earl and Harry Lane, both of Brook, and Wilbur Lane of Glen Burnie, Md.
Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Morocco.
