Dauenhauer At Rest: The Burial of the Veteran Engineer and Worthy Citizen 
 
"The funeral of Mr. Peter Dauenhauer, Sr., the veteran engineer of the Southern Pacific Road [sic Railroad], whose death occurred last Sunday evening at his home in McDonoghville, was held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock, the cortege being one of the most imposing ever witnessed on the Jefferson side of the river. 
 
The obsequies were conducted with the impressive rites of the Catholic church, Rev. Ernest Ehrhart, of St. Joseph's Catholic church, of Gretna, officiating, assisted by Rev. A. E. Dempsey, S.M., and Rev. Y.M. Helliet, S.M. A distinguished preiate, also in attendance as a close personal friend of the lamented deceased, was Ex-Vicar General Bogaerts, who as rector of the Catholic church at Gretna over a quarter of a century ago, officiating at the wedding of Mr. Dauenhauer and his bride. 
 
Mr. Dauenhauer was a member of various fraternal and benevolent organizations, all of which attended the obsequies, either in a body or in delegations. The Railroad fraternities were represented by every one of the various orders, with all of whom the deceased was exceedingly popular. The organizations in attendance formed in the following order in the funeral procession: St. Joseph Benevolent Association, Mechanics' Hook and Ladder and Hose Company No. 1, Lee Benevolent Association, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Catholic Knights of America, Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen, Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, and the Order of Railway Conductors. 
 
The following gentlemen acted as honorary pallbearers: Hon. L.H. Marrero, sheriff of Jefferson; F.A. Middleton, representing St. Joseph Benevolent Association; P. Doner, representing Catholic Knights of America; John Pfeiffer, representing Mechanics' Fire Company; B.A. Maddix, representing Lee Benevolent Association. The active pallbearers, representing the several organizations in attendance were: Joseph Hindelang, M. Doner, William Rousseau, P. Murtagh, J. Mullane, Eustace Koerner, and A. Dartsup. Besides the large attendance from the above organizations, there was a legion of friends, who followed the remains to their last earthly home, for Peter Dauenhauer was a man whom everyone esteemed. 
 
After the solemn ceremonies, in St. Joseph's church, at Gretna, the cortege proceeded to Hook and Ladder cemetery, where the remains were laid to rest in the family tomb".
