He was born in Wheeling on September 14, 1920, the son of the late Robert L. and Kathryn Witzberger Meintel. James was a retired co-owner of Warwood Tool Company; a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII; a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of Columbus Golf Club; and a member of St. Michael Parish. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Doris Elizabeth Knox Meintel; and a brother, Robert Meintel. James is survived by a son, James P. Meintel Jr. of Wheeling; a daughter, Sandy Erhardt of Steubenville, Ohio; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Altmeyer Funeral Home, 154 Kruger Street, Elm Grove Chapel, Wheeling, where vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2005 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Wheeling. Following entombment, friends will gather at Generations Restaurant for a reception.
