HERRICK, William R., 92, of Rosary Road, New Martinsville, W.Va., died Thursday, December 25, 2008, at his home.
He was born July 3, 1916, in Proctor, W.Va., the son of the late William and Christine Yontz Herrick.
Bill was a loving husband to Helen Morris Herrick for over 66 years.
He is loved and remembered as a caring father and grandfather.
He was a 1939 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Science in commerce; co-owner of Herrick's Supermarket; a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church; a founding member and former president of the New Martinsville Rotary Club; a member of the Wetzel County Hospital Board of Trustees; first president of the St. Vincent de Paul School PTO; first president of St. Vincent de Paul Holy Name Society; past chair of the WV Retail Grocers Association; and a member of the New Martinsville Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Morris Herrick; six sons, Richard (Stella) Herrick of N. Redington Shores, Fla., Timothy Herrick of Claysville, Pa., Charles (Candace) Herrick of McConnell, W.Va., Mark (Stephanie) Herrick of Holt Summit, Mo., Robert Herrick of Charleston, W.Va., and Roch (Beverley) Herrick of Lawrence, Kan.; four daughters, Patricia (Joseph) Sheridan of Tucker, Ga., Anita (Samuel) Mullett of Morgantown, W.Va., Christine (Neil) Baasten of Canton, Ohio, and Jan Thomas of New Martinsville; 21 grandchildren, Marie, Rick and Jahn Herrick, Veronica Barnes, Mark and Kathleen Sheridan, Christie McCartney, Lisa Khan, Jason and Cindy Baasten, Tracy Herrick, Teresa Heinzman, Lisa Wager, Jeff Thomas, Brandon Herrick, Ben, Andy, Josh, Charlie, and Matt Herrick, and William Robert Herrick; and 9 great-grandchildren, April, Cassie, Emma Jane, Abby, Katie Reese, Hunter, Savannah, Christina and McKenna.
Family members would like to express their appreciation and deep gratitude to his caregivers and hospice personnel.
Family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday, from 5-8 p.m., with the Rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m., at Grisell Funeral Home and Crematory, 751 Third Street, New Martinsville.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated on Monday, at 11 a.m., at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 21 Rosary Road, New Martinsville, with Fr. Steve Vallelonga as celebrant.
Interment in Northview Cemetery, New Martinsville.
