Edward's Obituary
Edward “Ed” A. Wetsch, 78, of Grand Forks, ND passed “to his eternal life” peacefully at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks on March 31, 2016 after a courageous fight with cancer. Ed was born on June 11, 1937 in St. Anthony, ND to Anton and Magdalina (Hutzenbuhler) Wetsch. He was the 2nd youngest of 11 children. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Marvin Klemmer as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the North Dakota Army National Guard. Visitation with Memorial/Vigil Service will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a special remembrance program at 6 pm, a rosary and closing prayer service at 6:30 pm. In keeping with Ed’s wishes of “a life well lived,” his service organizations, business achievements and many philanthropic endeavors will remain anonymous. He never wanted to seek recognition. Ed always said, “life is really quite simple once you peel away the billion complicated layers of exaggeration and drama that we love to add to it. I don’t need a banner, plaque or scholarship fund with my name on it”. Those who knew him will always remember Ed as a “very quiet man,” humble and unselfish. There was never, ever a sense of “entitlement.” He always instilled in his children and grandchildren that you “must work” for what you have, but also “you must give” to others. Indeed, he was an individual who was wise beyond his years. He knew that you couldn’t be “selfish” and wise at the time. Ed is survived by his wife Rochelle (Ro), the “love of his life of 55 wonderful years,” children Denise (Tim) Wald, Scottsdale, AZ; Mark Wetsch, Springfield, MO; Amy (Jim) Khan, Des Moines, WA; daughter-in-law Nancy (Scott) Wetsch, Lutz, FL; 10 grandchildren; brothers John, Glen Ullin, ND; Val (Darlene) Wetsch, Bismarck, ND; sisters Leona George, Benedict, ND; Angie (Frank) Boehm, Mandan, ND; Loretta (David) Erhardt, Houston, TX; sister-in-laws Leona Wetsch, Urbandale, IA; Carol Wetsch, Bismarck, ND; together with many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by “his beloved son Scott,” his parents, brothers Tony (Betty) Wetsch, George (Margaret) Wetsch, Mike (Rose) Wetsch, Jack Wetsch and Raymond Wetsch. Friends are cordially invited to join the family from 5-7PM-April 5, 2016 for “A TIME OF REMEMBRANCE OF ED’S LIFE,” together with a Memorial/Vigil Service at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, ND. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers (memorials directed for Masses in Ed’s name) be sent to Holy Family Catholic Church, 1018 South 18th Avenue, Grand Forks, ND and/or to a personal charity of choice. A special “thank you” from the Wetsch family to Dr. M. Siddque for his support and to the nursing staff at Altru’s Cancer Center, together with the Hospice Team of the Red River Valley, Grand Forks, ND.
