The obituary of Francis Bosold appeared in the Dover-New Philadelphia [OH] Times Reporter on 25 May 2005:
Francis E. Pete Bosold, 78, of 5589 E. State Rd., Newcomerstown, died suddenly on Sunday afternoon, May 22, in the emergency room at Union Hospital, Dover.
Pete was born in Wheeling, W.Va., on Feb. 18, 1927, a son of the late Frederick G. and Marie Ann Gillingham Bosold. Following his graduation from Wheeling Central High School, he enlisted in the Navy and served in the Pacific theater during World War II. Following his Navy duty, he enrolled in West Liberty State College and graduated with a degree in business. For over 30 years, he has been the owner and president of the Bosold Insurance Agency at Newcomerstown. Pete belonged to St. Francis deSales Catholic Church at Newcomerstown where he served as lector and was also active with the John Kennedy Council, Knights of Columbus. He was a life member of the Newcomerstown Elks Lodge No. 1555 and also belonged to the Thomas Montgomery Post No. 431, Newcomerstown American Legion, the Newcomerstown Rotary Club, the Big Red Hunt Club where he served as secretary, the Newcomerstown Chamber of Commerce, the Business and Professional Men, and the Messiah Temple. Pete enjoyed many outdoor activities, including golfing, fishing, hunting, landscaping, boating and camping.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Delores V. Smith Bosold of Newcomerstown, who died on Nov. 7, 1993, and whom he married Jan. 4, 1947. Also deceased are a son, William Lee Bosold of Newcomerstown, and a brother, John Bosold of Bellaire.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Garry F. and Cynthia K. (Smith) Bosold of Newcomerstown; a daughter, Sharon M. Fondriest of Newcomerstown; and seven grandchildren, Eric R. Bosold of Toledo, Joshua M. Bosold of Newcomerstown, Dawn M. Bosold of Newark, Shannon M. Fondriest of Newcomerstown and Jessica P. Fondriest, Heather N. Fondriest, and Alea R. F. Fondriest, all of Dover. Pete also leaves two step-grandchildren, Heather D. Devore of Cambridge and Christopher E. Maust of New Concord; a step-great-grandson, Devon M. Devore of Cambridge; a sister, Kathleen Peoples of Prairie du Sac, Wis.; brothers, George E. and wife Margaret R. Bosold of Bethlehem, W.Va., and Jimmy T. Bosold of Bellaire; a sister-in-law, Kitty Bosold of Bellaire; and his former son-in-law, Ronald W. Fondriest of Dover.
The funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, May 27, at 10 a.m. in St. Francis deSales Church at Newcomerstown. Fr. William Faustner will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery at Newcomerstown, at a later date, where the Newcomerstown Veterans? Honor Guard will perform military graveside services. Friends may call in the Ourant Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. Christian Wake services will be observed in the funeral home on Thursday evening at 8:45 p.m. Elks Lodge services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 6:45 p.m.
