James DeWitt, 75, Jud, N.D., died Tuesday, April 22, 2009, at his home.
Mr. DeWitt was born Aug. 3, 1933, in Jamestown, the son of Harry and Christina (Nitschke) DeWitt. He received his elementary education at Alfred Public School, Alfred, N.D., and graduated from Gackle High School, Gackle, N.D., in 1951. He joined the U.S. Army on July 9, 1953, at Fargo, N.D., and served in Korea while stationed in Japan. He was discharged on June 3, 1955, at Ft. Carson, Colo., with the rank of corporal. He married Judy Wegner on Oct. 5, 1956, at Stevenson, Wash. They lived in Rosenberg, Ore., for a year, then moved to Alfred for a year and then to a farm northwest of Jud. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Gackle, where he was a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Mikkleson Township Board. He enjoyed farming.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Bryan (Barbara), Hazen, N.D., Nolan, New Port, Minn., and Jason (Tammy), Bismarck, N.D.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
