Godwin, age 88 of Boone and a resident of the Eastern Star Masonic Home of Boone since April 26, 1997, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home. Frances was born on September 17, 1922 in Boone County, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Floyd and Ella (Kelley) Bass. She attended country school in Boone County, and has lived all her life in the Stratford, Ridgeport and Boone area. On February 18, 1946 Frances was married to James Homer Godwin in the Little Brown Church of Nashua, Iowa. She worked as a bookkeeper/co-owner with her husband with their Auto Body & Fender business. In 1966, she worked at Bournes Company in Ames, Iowa assembling electronic components until she retired. Frances enjoyed cooking and baking, her specialty was fruit pies, and also canning her garden produce and fruit she grew. She enjoyed square dancing for many years with her husband, and traveling to Texas for the winters after her retirement. Frances is survived by her daughter, Jody Ann Godwin of Ames, Iowa and her grandkity, Domino. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Melvin Bass. Her wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 31, in the Eastern Star Masonic Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Webb officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, January 31, in the Eastern Star Masonic Home Chapel from 9:00 A.M. to the time of service at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be held at a later date in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery near Ridgeport, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
