BLOOMING PRAIRIE -- The funeral for Ray Dean Bass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church of Blooming Prairie, with the Rev. Debbie King-Quale officiating. Interment will be in Blooming Prairie City Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 52.
Mr. Bass, 78, of Blooming Prairie, died Wednesday (Feb. 22, 2006) at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born March 27, 1927, in Boone County, Iowa, grew up in Boone and graduated from Boone High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1943, where he became a medic at Halloran General Hospital in New York. He was discharged in 1946 and married Audrey J. Kelly on Feb. 23, 1947, in Boone. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa, for 13 years before moving to Blooming Prairie in 1957. In Blooming Prairie, he farmed and was the superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant for 26 years. He was a member of the Blooming Prairie United Methodist Church, where he served as trustee. He also was a member of the American Legion, Winona Consistory, Masonic Lodge in Blooming Prairie and Austin, Osman Temple Shrine, Blooming Prairie Shrine Club, Osman Temple Oriental Band and the Masonic Lodge of Blooming Prairie. He was present worthy patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and the past master of the Masonic Lodge in Blooming Prairie. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Tim (Sandy) of Blooming Prairie; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Four sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Worlein-Blooming Prairie Funeral Home, and an hour before the service Monday at the church. A Masonic service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor's choice.
