Note: From the Herald, Wed. Sep. 18, 1974: "Hubert Bonifer Suffers Fatal Seizure At 70 - Hubert J. Bonifer, 70, of R. 1, St. Anthony, a farmer and former employe of the Dubois County Highway Department, died suddenly Tuesday evening after apparently suffering a heart attack while attending the annual membership meeting and dance of the Dubois County Farm Bureau, Inc. The event was held at the St. Anthony Community Center. Mr. Bonifer was dead on arrival at Memorial Hospital. He was employed by the highway department until he retired in 1967. Mr. Bonifer was a member of St. Anthony Community Club, the Farm Bureau, the Schnellville and St. Anthony conservation clubs and the Mutual Aid Society of Schnellville.He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church until 1965 when he moved for a time to the Schnellville community and became a member of the Sacred Heart Church congregation. He was born on April 10, 1904, at St. Anthony to Valentine and Philomina (Schneider) Bonifer. On Oct. 14. 1931, he was married to Louise Wehr, who survives. Also surviving are four sons, Ronald of Jasper, Kenneth of Langdon, N.D., Ralph of Chicago and Eugene of Dubois; four daughters, Mrs. John Schnell of Schnellville, Mrs. Gerald Terwiske and Mrs. Gary Bair of Dubois and Mrs. Bill Hauser of St. Anthony. Also four brothers, Fred of Jasper, Adam of Ireland and John and Albert of Louisville; five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Fleck of Ireland, Mrs. Katie Fleck of Huntingburg, Mrs. Rosalia Hasenour of St. Anthony, Mrs. Marie Zinner and Mrs. Ardella Krach of Louisville; and 19 grandchildren. A brother, Othmar, is deceased. The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Anthony Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery."
