  [S927] Obituary. LaVerne E. Dale, Sr. Age 84, of Canton, passed away on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009. He was born on July 6, 1925, in Canton, to the late Boyd and Ursula Dale. Vern proudly served our country in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. In 1958, he founded Vern Dale's Water Center, which he owned and operated for many years. Vern was very involved with the Canton and Stark County Community for many years. In the 1960s, he served as a Canton City Councilman for the 12th Ward and served as Stark County Commissioner in 1971. He was the longest member in history on the Stark County Board of Elections and served on the Board of Stark State University. Vern was also a Precinct Committeeman and a Democratic Executive Committeeman. He enjoyed water-skiing and boating. Vern had a great love for kids and animals and enjoyed feeding the squirrels over the years. He will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew him. In addition to his parents, Vern was preceded in death by a brother, Gene Dale; sister, Wanda McCord; and son-in-law, Larry Dirocco. He is survived by his loving wife, Alma Dale from New York City, to whom he was married 65 wonderful years; his four children, Patricia A. Dirocco of Louisville, Cheryl J. Dale of San Diego, Calif., Cynthia S. (Gary) Rushe of Canton and LaVerne E. (Rebecca) Dale, Jr. of Plain Township; eight grandchildren, Mishelle, Stacy, Brian, Heather, John, Meredith, Lisa and Kimberly; five great-grandchildren, Nick, Brianna, Arielle, Austin and Paige; brother, Lowell Dale of Florida; and his beloved dog, Sheba. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home North Canton Chapel (801 Pittsburg Ave. N.W., North Canton, Ohio 44720). Burial will follow in Warstler Cemetery.
