  [S927] Obituary. COLUMBUS: Clifford C. "Lefty" Wiles, 89 of Columbus, formerly of Zanesville, died 12:38 a.m. Monday, May 03, 2010 at Columbus West Park Nursing & Rehab Center following a lengthy illness. He was born Sunday, May 1, 1921 in Zanesville, the son of Clifford A. Wiles and Helen A (Swartzmiller) Wiles. He married Shirley Ann (Durant) Wiles on Thursday, April 01, 1948. Clifford was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Columbus and a former member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Clifford was a graduate of The Ohio State University class of 1949. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus #505 where he served as former Faithful Navigator. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He was a sales representative with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company retiring in 1980 following 15 years of service. In addition to his wife, Shirley, Clifford is survived by two daughters: Christine (Jeffrey) Lauffer of Merritt Island, FL and Cathleen (Don) Williams of Mason; three sons: Michael (Jane Ellen) Wiles of Zanesville, Gerald Wiles of Columbus and John (Brenda) Wiles of Zanesville; three grandsons; one step-granddaughter; and seven step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant grandson; two brothers, Robert Wiles and William Wiles. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010 at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, where a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 7, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Fr. Martin Ralko as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery with VFW Post 1058 conducting Full Military Honors.
