Birth: Feb. 22, 1840 Campbell County Kentucky, USA Death: Dec. 1, 1936 Kahoka Clark County Missouri, USA James Whitehead, son of William and Emma Greenwell Whitehead, was born on the 22nd day of February 1840 in Campbell county, Kentucky, and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Saar, near Kahoka, Mo., on the 1st day of December, 1926, being at the time of his death 96 (sic) years, 9 months, and 9 days old. His father was born in England and his mother was born in France. He received his education in the state of Ohio. When he was a young man, he worked as a steamboat engineer on the Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio rivers. During the Civil War he ran a hospital boat, serving his country in this manner. In the year 1867, he came to Clark county and during that year he united in marriage to Miss Caroline Blattner. The following named children were born: Laura, Henry, Albert, William, Lillian, Charles, Emma James, John, Fred and Frank. Laura and Henry died in infancy and William at the age of 12 years. He united with the Baptist church at Bear Creek. When the Wyaconda Baptist church was organized he transferred his church membership there. He way always anxious to have his children attend Sunday school and church and was always ready to go with them. Mr. and Mrs. Whitehead spent their married life on a farm just north of Wyaconda, where they reared their family to manhood and womanhood. With the exceptions of a very few years, Mr. Whitehead was able to work and oversee his farm. His good wife passed to the Great Beyond on February 28, 1912. Mr. Whitehead was industrious, upright and honorable in all his dealings. For nearly three quarters of a century, he lived in this county and leaves it with the love ad respect of the entire community. There remains to mourn his death the following named children: Albert Whitehead of Pittsburg, Kansas; Mrs. Lillian Saar, Kahoka, Mo.; Mr. Charles Whitehead of Wayland, MO.; Mrs. Emma Crouch, Weyer, Iowa; James, John, and Fred Whitehead, all of Wyaconda; and Frank Whitehead of Kahoka, Mo.; two half sisters, Mrs. Hattie Schlotzhauer of Oquawka, Ill.; Mrs. Vina Evans of Gatesburg, Ill.; one half brother, Daniel Hagen of Oquawka, Ill; 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Wyaconda Baptist church, Thursday afternoon, December 3 at 2 o'clock, G. V. Baskett, officiating. The pallbearers were sons of the deceased namely: Albert, Charles, James, John, Fred, and Frank. Music was furnished by Miss Josephine Pothana and Mrs. Sanford DesVaux with Mrs. G. V.
