Helen Schott Iams Oct. 9, 1921 - Aug. 31, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Helen Schott Iams, 92, passed away at 6:10 pm Sunday, August 31, 2014, at The Sanctuary at St. Paul's. Helen was born on October 9, 1921, in Caldwell, OH, to the late Clarence George and Pearl Margaret (Zwick) Schott. On May 12, 1943, in Caldwell, she married John W. Iams, who passed away on February 18, 2003. She was also preceded in death by a son, John Iams; and three sisters: Ruth Sausman, Eileen Fisher and Constance Brankel. She is survived by four daughters: Barbara (Bob) Herr of Grand Rapids, MI, Marcia (Dan) Jones of South Bend, Mary (Todd) Hannert of West Dundee, IL, and Martha (David) Gabrielse of Newaygo, MI; two sons: Joseph (Ann) Iams of South Bend and George (Tracey) Iams of Mishawaka; sister, Vera Fye of Clinton, OH; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Prior to moving to St. Paul's, Mrs. Iams was a longtime member of both Christ the King and Sacred Heart Parishes. As a woman of deep faith, she served as a Eucharistic minister at St. Paul's and led the daily Rosary. She was a tremendous cook, an avid bridge player, and a faithful Cubs and Notre Dame fan. Her greatest joy was being a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, with visitation from 10-11, today at the Sanctuary of St. Paul's, with Rev. Herbert Yost, CSC, officiating. She will be buried alongside her husband John at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN, following. McGann Hay Funeral Homes, University Chapel (574-232-1411), is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial donations may be made in Helen's memory to the Family and Children's Center, 315 W.
