SHAFFER - Dean G., 89, Windber, died May 12, 2000, at Regional Hospice at Windber. Born April 15, 1911, in Rummel, son of late Irvin and Leila (Fyock) Shaffer. Also preceded in death by wife, former Allegra Weaver, who died March 3, 2000, and brother, Roy. Survived by these children: David, married to former Patricia Durst, and Janet (Codick), wife of Richard Wissinger, both of Windber: and Norman I., married to former Carol Moore, Taylors, S.C.; also six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Brother of Herschel, married to former Norma Onstead, and Lee, married to former Betty Brubaker, both of California; Myron "Hunce," married to former Betty Ringler, Windber; and Leila (Peterson), wife of Cloyd Welker, Friedens. Former owner/operator of I. Shaffer Coal Co. Formerly employed by Hiteshew Planing Mill, Windber. Mr. Shafer was a master craftsman. Member of Rummel Church of the Brethren, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Ken Gresh, pastor, officiating. Interment, Berkey Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Meek Funeral Home Inc., Windber. Those who wish may make contributions to Regional Hospice at Windber in memory of Dean C.
