- [S927] Obituary.
RAPID CITY - Reinhold Ladner, 91, Rapid City, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at a local nursing home. Reinie was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Eureka to John and Marie (Gruneich) Ladner. He served with the Civil Conservation Corps in the 1930's to earn money to help keep the family farm operating. Reinie married Elsie Perman on July 14, 1940, at the Congregational Church in Greenway. They farmed on the Ladner homestead near Eureka for 15 years. The land had numerous rocks that had to be hand picked. In 1955, they moved to Lead where Reinie still worked with rocks at the Homestake Gold Mine for 26 years. He was responsible for maintaining the drilling machines. Contract miners praised him for his mechanical skills. He retired from the mine in 1981. In 1991, they moved to Rapid City. Reinie liked fishing and making artwork from resin and rocks he collected from the Black Hills. He enjoyed bowling and a high game of 297 kept him bowling, always trying for that perfect game. Reinie had great musical skills and played drums with the Music Mates Band at various dance halls in the Black Hills area. On many Saturday nights, you could find Reinie on the dance floor showing off his great polka steps. He was also a sharp card player; you had to be on top of your game if you wanted a chance to win. Reinie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elsie Ladner, Rapid City; his daughter, Janice (Don) Groves, Gillette, Wyo.; his son, Gary (Helen) Ladner, Rapid City; six grandchildren, Michelle (Rich) Detry, Albuquerque, N.M., Sheree (Rune) Wold, Houston, Randy (Gayle) Groves, Minneapolis, Rick (Jeanene) Groves, Gillette, Rusty (Patty) Groves, Farmington, Minn., and Renee (Kelvin) Reed, Santa Rosa, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren, Anna and Olivia Detry, Albuquerque, Henrik and Nyla Wold, Houston, Sarah and Kyle Groves, Farmington, Jesse and Lucas Reed, Santa Rosa, and Chad Meverden, Gillette; and one great-great grandchild, Dezray Meverden, Gillette; sister-in-law, Malinda Ladner; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Emma Opp; and two brothers, Barney and Julius Ladner. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, and for one hour before services at the church. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at South Maple United Methodist Church, 202 E. Indiana St., in Rapid City, with the Rev. John McKnight Jr. officiating.
