Birth: Feb. 18, 1924 Eureka McPherson County South Dakota, USA Death: Sep. 22, 2012 Aberdeen Brown County South Dakota, USA Aberdeen American News (SD) - Wednesday, September 26, 2012 The funeral service for Royal Schnabel, 88, of Aberdeen will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at First Reformed Church, with Pastor David Dawn officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. Royal died Saturday, Sept. 22, at his home at Davis Court. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St., Aberdeen. Royal Schnabel was born Feb. 18, 1924, at Eureka to Jacob and Magdalena (Heyd) Schnabel. This is the area where he grew up and attended rural school. On Jan. 20, 1946, he married Glorena Wiederich at Hosmer. They made their home on a farm near Hosmer until 1960, when they moved to Aberdeen. They owned and operated Dan's Café until 1971. He did carpentry and painting and later worked for Northern State College until he retired in 1989. Glorena died on May 23, 2011, at Aberdeen. Royal was a member of the First Reformed Church and the Aberdeen Senior Center. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Grateful for having shared Royal's life are his children: Gene (Wanda) Schnabel, Longmont, Colo., Dennis (Cheryl) Schnabel, Mercer Island, Wash., JoAnn (Wayne) Sheldon, Brandon and Jack (Laurel) Schnabel, Chanhassen, Minn.; grandchildren: Nate (Sara) Schnabel, Kristin (Ryan) Mayhew, Sasha (Scott) Mail, Aaron (Alisha) Schnabel, Teresa Sheldon, Katie (Kelly) Meeker, Ryan Schnabel and Allison Schnabel; great-grandchildren: Sofia and Stella Schnabel, Naftali and Yehuda Mail, Zoe and Thijs Schnabel and Olivia Green; sister-in-law, Gardella Voeller; brother-in-law, Gordon Rath.
