BIOGRAPHY: From: Rich Aspenleiter Greetings everyone, My Grandmother was a SCHANZ born in Speyer, Ukraine, Russia. Her ancestors came from Lingenfeld, Rhine Pfalz., to Speyer, Ukraine, in 1809. Her name was Emilie and she married my Grandfather, Jakob Aspenleiter, who was also born in Speyer, Ukraine. His ancestors immigrated to Speyer, Ukraine, from Birkenhördt, Rhineland Pfalz., also in 1809. I know that there are ASPENLEITERS/ASPELEITERS in Dahn and was wondering if anyone has any connections with these people. I've been able to collect some data on ASPENLEITERS from Dahn but have not been able to connect them with my ASPENLEITERS that came from Birkenhördt. I sure would like to. Does any one know if the Dahn SCHANZ family is connected to the SCHANZ people from Lingenfeld? Thanks for your time, Rich Aspenleiter

Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Cemetery
Gates, New York
This cemetery is located in the Town of Gates across the street from the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, which is at 220 Coldwater Road.
It is difficult to date the official beginning date of this cemetery. The Church was organized in 1876 and the cemetery probably began soon after. Church records for the Rochester diocese were filmed in the mid-1980s. Because of privacy concerns, only the records up to December 31, 1910 were filmed. The earliest existing records for Holy Ghost Church begin on January 1, 1909. Thus, a few burial records from 1909 (4 records) and 1910 (8 records) are also included.
The tombstone inscriptions in this list were copied in August 1993 by Richard T. Halsey.
WEIS Frank J.; born 1859 Josephine M., wife of Frank J.; 1857 - 1917 "Sally" Natalie M.; 1912 - 1987

BIOGRAPHY: Rochester, Monroe, NY Union & Advertiser Mon Aug 7, 1893
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nymonnws/1893/AUG.html
Frank J. Weis is the Latest Veteran to be "Hokesmithed."
Another Rochester veteran has been "Hokesmithed." This time it is Frank J. WEIS, a carpenter, aged 56 years, who resides at No. 209 West Maple street.
WEIS received his notice of suspension on last Saturday, about the time the gentleman who writes for the Union and Advertiser the vituperactive editorials against the veterans, was preparing his screed denouncing the Democrat and Chronicle for calling the attention of the public to fresh samples of Hoke Smithism.
Mr. WEIS is 56 years old, and was wounded at the battle of Malvern Hill, and wears a Gettysburg metal. He had been receiving a pension of $4 a month, until last year his pension under the new law was increased to $8 per month. Two affidavits have been prepared, one signed by Richard VAY the other by Joseph YOUNG, that Mr. WEIS is totally disabled.

Veteran burials in Sections 14 - 17 of the North Division of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery
Rochester, NY
The records on this page came from books kept by the Monroe County Veteran's Service Agency in order to locate graves and be able to place flags on the veteran's grave. Each book contains many small forms with data on each veteran burial. There is varying amounts of data on the veteran on these forms. Some only have death date while others include birth, death, enlistment and discharge dates and locations. Whatever is listed on the forms is included on this page.
It appears that the veteran records were not updated after 1976.
The "Division" block on the form was used by the veteran's organization as a method of separating the the County into sections for those placing flags.
