7053 BIOGRAPHY: Re: John Casper George Rennert
Author: Susan Muller I had a greatgrandfather named John Casper Rennert. My grandfather's name was Edward George Rennert. He was from Newark NJ and married to Alice Walsh. My father is Edward Lorne Rennert and as a child they moved to Brooklyn NY. That is where my family is from. We have a family bible that gives us the surname Moser from Blankenborn Germany. We are assuming a Moser married a Rennert when they came to the states. My sister & I are planning a trip to Blanenborn to obain any other family history. Any other info you have would be appreciated. Thanks, Sue

BIOGRAPHY: Janet, we've been corresponding privately, but I wanted to post publicly some of the info. Agatha is a sister to my great-great-grandfather, John Nichter, who settled in Louisville, Ky. Their parents, Georg Michael and Christine/a Schauer had about 12 children and I have copies of their baptismal records from the Catholic parish registry in Doerrenbach, Rheinland-Pfalz. I'm interested in knowing if their son, also Georg (pronounced GAY-org in the old country) Michael, is the same on Bev Tonelli found in Nevada records. To learn more about Doerrenbach and this line, go to www.paintlickreflections.com/doerrenbach.html. I'll be posting additional info there on the genealogy of this line of Nichters, including what I think is a photo of Janet's ancestor, Agatha, which was found in the family photos of two of my John's children. Will gladly correspond with others researching any Nichters. Have an extensive database of hundreds of Nichters from all over after more than 20 years researching my roots.

7057 BIOGRAPHY: Roberta Johnson > Date: 2006-01-11 Earliest Common Ancestor Susannah Darlymple What State or Country do you live in Oregon, USA Comments: Hello, I have just begun researching my family. When my mother passed away in 1991 she left her marriage certificate with some other papers. It wasn't until this Christmas that I learned my brother still had it. It gave my father's father (our grandfather's)name as Adelbert Moyer born in Mt. Morris, Livingston County, New York c1878 . I believe Susannah Dalrymple, b. 1812, is a relative we have in common. She married Aaron Moyer, my great, great grandfather; their son Adelbert N Moyer married Julia Ewels. Adelbert and Julia's son Adelbert married Theresa Feiock. They had one son, my father William Francis Moyer. Another relative of yours, Nellie Rosanna Peterman married Fred Ray Dalrymple - their son, Milton Claire Dalrymple, passed away right here in Grants Pass on 8 Sep 1982. What a small world! Up until now, we only knew a handful of relatives, all on my mother's side. This is a whole new world opening up to me. Thanks for all the great work you have done. It makes it so easy when you can tie into a Family Tree. Roberta Johnson Moyer, Adelbert Newton (I46744)

Henry Weis Has His Foot Crushed at Thomas Bolton's Shop A few minutes after 8 o'clock this morning a young lad employed at Thomas BOLTON's shoe manufacturing establishment, corner of Andrews and Water streets, met with an accident which will lay him up for some time. The victim was Henry WEIS, aged 14 years, living at 23 Field street. He is employed by Mr. BOLTON as elevator boy, and, in running the car to the fourth floor, he accidentally caught his right foot between the bottom of the car floor and the casing of the elevator well. His toes were badly smashed and some of the bones were splintered. Sergeant O'BRIEN and Officer KLEISLEY in charge of the patrol wagon took the boy to St. Mary's Hospital.

Author: Richard Griffith Date: 8 Feb 2001 12:00 PM GMT
Surnames: Roeslein, Roesslein, Stegmann, Geenen, Betz
Classification: Query
BIOGRAPHY: I am seeking the birthplace and ancestry of my great-grandmother, Barbara Röslein or Rößlein, who emigrated to the United States in 1869, arriving at the port of New York on the steamship "Hansa" on 30 August 1869. This ship sailed from the port of Bremen, in Germany. On the arrival passenger list, she is shown as age 20, "belonging to the country of" Oberfranken. The next entry on the passenger list is "Conr." Betz, age 18, also from Oberfranken. As seen below, a Betz couple became godparents of her daughter Anna in 1878, suggesting to me that there may have been a family connection to the Betzes. Barbara first married Balthasar Stegmann about 1870 or 1871. He apparently died around 1876. She then married Jakob Cyriac Geenen around 1877. I have not been able to find either of these marriage records. There were two children from each marriage, and all were baptized at Most Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY. These were Margaret Stegmann (godmother was Margaret Roslein [see below]), Adam Stegmann (godparents Adam and Luise Biegen), Anna Maria Geenen (godparents Jno. and Anna Maria Betz) and Cyriac George Joseph Geenen (godparents Cyriac and Katherine Schreiner; Joseph Geenen was my grandfather). The church does not have either of the marriage records. In the 1890's the Geenens moved from Brooklyn to Newark, New Jersey, and subsequently purchased property at 57 Lang Street. Barbara died in 1903 and Jakob in 1924. They are both buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Newark. The church from which Barbara was buried does not have death records from that period of time. Barbara's gravestone gives the dates of her birth and death [25 July 1847 - 1 March 1903]. I am assuming that the date of 25 July is correct. Her age given on the ship passenger list and on various census records make her up to a couple years younger or older. For example, if she was 20 years old on 30 August 1869 (from the passenger list), she would have been born in 1849, not 1847. The 1880 census for Brooklyn, NY, 1 June 1880, shows her as age 33, which would make her born in 1846. The 1900 Federal Census of Newark, NJ, gives her birth as July 1846. So I am not sure that the year of 1847 is correct. The 1880 census shows that she was born in "Bavaria", which is consistent with "Oberfranken". The 1900 census, death certificate, and children's records simply give her birthplace as "Germany". Balthasar Stegmann arrived in New York on the ship "Auguste" on 18 September 1865, age 25, from the port of Bremen. Margaretha "Rosslein" arrived in New York on the ship "Rhein" on 25 March 1872, also from the port of Bremen. The passenger listings only gave their place of origin as "Germany". Margaretha's age leads me to believe that she was probably Barbara's sister. I think that is about all of the information I have at this time. I would welcome any suggestions anyone may have in order to obtain the desired birth and ancestry information for my great-grandmother. Richard Richard W. Griffith rgriffithone@mediaone.net

The Mellecker family followed a similar path in America. Francis Xavier Mellecker, also known as F.X., was a distiller, a carpenter and a farmer when he brought his family to Johnson County in 1853. In fact, F.X. carved the altar in St. Stanislaus Church outside of Hills using just a steel blade knife.
