5002 BIOGRAPHY: 'My mother's name was Isabelle Nist Daly. She was always called Isabelle; I don't remember anyone ever calling her Isabella, but her legal name was Isabella and that is how she signed her Last Will and Testiment. This is a beautiful story; one to be told and retold.' Sr. Pat

BIOGRAPHY: 'Standing at the top of a long row of steps on her back porch near the screen door, Isabelle smiled to herself as her eyes swept the circumference of her domain. She saw the two fruit trees of apple and cherry strategically placed diagonally - one near the house at the top of the garden and the other across the cement pathway and close to the alley near the bottom of the garden - along the side fence were her plants of flowering purple iris, white daisy, crimson tulips, blue delphinium, pink bleeding heart and gladiolus. Then behind the kidney shaped fish pond against the back fence, were her orange tiger lilies in abundance while closer to the gate her multicolored pansies flourished.

BIOGRAPHY: Suddenly, Isabelle was aware of movement beyond the gate high up on the telephone pole in the alley. His repair work completed, a man was now slowly descending to the ground and making his way toward her. She, thinking he might have some information to share, started down the stairs and the cement pathway to the back gate leading to the alley.

BIOGRAPHY: The man began with questioning, "You live here? This your backyard?" Wondering is she was going to hear bad news, Isabelle responded, "Yes" to both questions.

BIOGRAPHY: "Lady", he said, "I've been working on these telephone poles for 21 years, and I've seen more backyards than you could ever count, but I have to tell you this. I have never seen a yard like yours before today! This yard is elegant! The flowers, the grass, your fish pond and the trees. It is beautiful, a real joy to see from above!"

BIOGRAPHY: What a surprise! What a wonderful compliment! What an unexpected Comment!

BIOGRAPHY: Submitted by Judy McBride Nist as written by Isabelle's (Isabella) daughter Sister Patricia Daly of Seattle, WA and shared in her Christmas card of 2010.

WORDS AND WEAPONS.
Trouble Between Neighbors That Waa
Stopped on the Verge of Bloodahed.
A neighbors' quarrel that stopped just
short of tragedy occurred last Sunday
morning on Ames street, when Jacob
Wegman and John Goeltz, who .reside side
by side, became involved in a wordy encounter
that resulted in a rifle and hoe
being brandished by the participants. As
the story was told iu police court yesterday morning
by the different parties, it
appeared that Wegman had been told that
Goeltz had said he (Wegman) had stolen
some article from Goeltz.
Wegman asked Goeltz why he had said
that he was a thief. Goeltz denied that
he made any such statement. Wegman
insisted that he had, and threw in some
verbal embellishments with his accusation
that naturally made Goeltz angry, and
warm words filled the air from both sides of
the line fence. The calm Sabbath air was
so unusually rent with the sounds of argument
that many neighbors drew near to
view the outcome.
Percy Celsey, who was in Goeltz's
house. appeared on the scene with a rifle,
and fearing that Wegman would do violence
with a hoe which he was flourishing,
put a warlike appearance to the scene by
threatening to shoot Wegman if he came
over the line on to Goeltz's property.
Wegman raised the hoe in a threatening
manner, and the man behind the gun drew
a bead on him, at which the bystanders
suddenly decided to take a hand and pre-
vent bloodshed. While some disarmed
Wegman of the hoe, others persuaded
Celsey to lay down his gun. The combatants
finally decided to cease active hostilities
for the time being. Goeltz procured
a warrant for Wegman, with the
result that after the story was told iu
police court yesterday morning. Wegman
was fined $5.

Classification: Query
Surnames: Riesbeck/Reasbeck/Yunkas/Mohr
I am interested in finding any descendents of Adam Riesbeck who emigrated to US from Germany in 1830s and settled in PA and then Ohio. First wife was Magdelina Yunkas. Second wife was Maria Mohr. My parents were George and Sylvia Reasbeck. Anyone out there?

BIOGRAPHY:
In 1850, 37 year old German-born farmer Adam Reisbeck lived in Centre Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living with him was 65 year old Margaret Reisbeck, and children Catherine (14), Barbara (9), Maria (7), Mark (5), and Martin (2). It is theorized that Adam was a widower living with his widowed mother, but this has not been proven. None of the children attended school. Adam's farm was valued at $1000.
At the time of the 1870 census, 57 year old Bavarian-born farmer Adam Reesaback lived in Center Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio with Mary (45, born in Prussia) and eight children: Magdeline (16), George (15), Mary A. (14), Elizabeth (12), Charles J. (10), Teresa (?) (8), Anne (6), and Philip (4). Mary, Elizabeth, Charles and Teresa attended school. Magdeline and her parents were the only ones in the home who could read. Adam's farm was worth $3000, and his personal possessions were valued at $800.

5016 BIOGRAPHY: Adoption Record Availability for 1870s

Classification: Query
I would like to get information on how to obtain copies of adoption records for the 1870s period. My great grandmother, Barbara Roslein, had two children, Margaretha and Adam, by her first husband Balthasar Stegmann. These two children were subsequently adopted by her second husband, Jacob Geenen, around 1876-1880. They lived on Humboldt Street in Brooklyn, Kings County. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am trying to determine the church in Brooklyn, Kings County, where my great-grandmother was married. Her name was Barbara Roeslein. She married, first, Balthasar Stegmann, ca. 1870-1872. He apparently died, and she married, second, Jacob Cyriac Geenen, ca 1876-1877. They lived at or near 248 Humboldt Street during this time. There were two children from each marriage, and all were baptized at Most Holy Trinity Church, Montrose, Ave. However, Most Holy Trinity does NOT have either marriage recorded. Is there another church in this area where a German immigrant couple might have been married? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

5020 BIOGRAPHY: Albert Pinkston is my daddy's brother. He died about 1934 in Arizona. According to the story related by his wife, Gertrude Boatright, he became ill as they were traveling to California from Texas. He developed a highly contagious infection (probably Staph) and died shortly after being admitted to a local hospital (probably from Sepsis). The authorities would not let Gertrude visit him before he died or to view his body. As a result, the family does not know where he died or where he is buried. Gertrude married a man whose last name was Trent. Mr. Trent adopted her son Dalton Pinkston. Pinkston, George Albert (I141150)

Lowell Kuntz

Hans Cuntz, son of Cuntz Cuntz (1490 - 1560), was formally trained at the Ducal Forestry School in Heidelberg, Germany from which he graduated in 1559. He returned home to be married in 1538. The couple had 4 known sons

BIOGRAPHY: Re: Sperber, Leicht, Thomann, Hauslauer in Rochester Posted by: B.D. Mills (ID *****0987) Date: May 29, 2005 at 12:28:53
Hi, My great great grandparents were Jacob George and Katherine (Sperber) Haszlauer (sometimes spelled Hauslauer). they lived in Scottsville NY. Katherine's original surname was Sperber. She was born in 1864 in Gloversville, NY. She had an older brother named John (b. 1858 Johnstown, NY) who married an Effie Boas. Both couples are buried in Scottsville's Holy Angels Cemetery. Other Sperber siblings are Ida May, Rosa, Anna, & Louis. I do not know much about them as of yet. I have my g-g-grandmother Katherine Sperber's father and mother as John and Sophia Sperber, or Sparber. John I believe was born around 1829 in Bayern (Germany). Sophia was born in Baden about four years later. I am not aware of when they came to America, whether together or seperately, but I believe they moved to Scottsville from Gloversville around 1870. Katherine married Jacob Haszlauer in April of 1891. They had eight children that attained maturity: George, Mary (my g-grandmother), Katherine, Jacob, Edward, Margaret, Peter, and Louise. Peter is still living at 104 years of age. Katie and George both lived to 100 and Margaret and Lou well into their late 90s. Edward fell out of a barn loft and died in 1950. I have a photo of Katherine Sperber Haszlauer with her husband and three small children. It is from the summer of 1895 which would make her 31 years old. She was rather thin though she filled out in the usual German way by her mid-forties., She died in July of 1953.
