Message: From the "History of Huntington County, Indiana 1914" In Huntington county large quantities of that most useful commodity, brick, are manufactured by Frank F. Holzinger, who some years ago started this business in a small way, and now is a factor in the production of more brick than any other one concern in the county. Mr. Holzinger represents an old and substantial family of Huntington township, and his own career has been one of progress and of influential activities since he reached manhood. Frank F. Holzinger was born in Huntington township October 13, 1869, a son of John and Caroline (Eberly) Holzinger. His father, now retired, after a long career as a farmer, is living with his wife in Huntington, on Cherry street. There are four children still living at this writing, Frank being the oldest, and the others: Joseph, of Huntington township; Mary, wife of Joseph Harkenrother; Lena, wife of J. L. Kock. Frank F. Holzinger was reared on the home farm, attended the district schools and later the parochial schools of Huntington, and his residence continued with his parents, until he was twenty-six years of age, at which time he married Miss Theresa Eckert of Huntington township, She was born in that township, and like her husband received her education in the parochial schools. Twenty-five years ago, in 1887, Mr. Holzinger started the manufacture of brick. His first kiln was a small one, and he employed only one or two hands during a portion of the year, and had somewhat crude facilities for the manufacture. At the present time he has a large plant at his home north of Huntington, located on twenty acres of land, with all the facilities for making perfect brick of several textures and commercial varieties. Mr. Holzinger also owns a half interest in the Huntington Brick Company, whose plant is located south of Huntington on the. Warren Road. The seven children born to the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Holzinger are: Agnes, aged thirteen; Herman, aged eleven; Francis, aged nine; Mary, aged seven; Carl, five years old; Rudolph, who is three years old; and Pauline, the baby. The family are communicants of the church of Sts. Peter and Paul, Catholic, at Huntington. Mr. Holzinger is a democrat in politics. He and his wife have labored together in establishing a home and a gratifying degree of material prosperity, and while enjoying the esteem of the community, they find their chief pleasure in their home and in affording their children the best of advantages in schools and in training under their own supervision.

Message: "History of Huntington County, Indiana"1914 By Frank S. Bash pg. 644-45 John B. Stoffel. About thirty-five years ago John B. Stoffel came from his native Germany to America. He was then a young man with a few hundred dollars of capital, and with a courage and industry equal to all the hardships and hazards confronting him in his career in the new world. Mr. Stoffel has for the past twenty-five years been a prosperous farmer in Clear Creek township of Huntington county and long since reached a place of high esteem in the community and has founded a beautiful and comfortable home and become able to provide for his growing family and at the same time enjoy the comforts of life for himself. John B. Stoffel was born in the Kingdom of Luxemburg, December 6, 1852. His parents were Peter and Margaret (Feight) Stoffel, both of whom spent all their lives in the old country. There were ten children and three of them came to the United States. John B. Stoffel was reared and educated in his native land, was trained to habits of industry, and thrift, and on coming to the United States in 1878 possessed six hundred dollars in cash. His first location was in the city of Huntington where he was employed by his brother in a tannery for a year and a half. After that he bought a farm in Jackson township, and settled down to a career of farming. Mr. Stoffel married Margaret Ludwig, who came from the old country, and who died a few years after their marriage. She left one son, Charles Stoffel, who now lives in Huntington, and another child died in infancy. On November 17, 1887, Mr. Stoffel married Rosie Scheu, who was born July 15, 1858, in Germany. Their marriage was celebrated in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and they came to Huntington county and located on the farm in Clear Creek township where they still reside. Eight children have been born to their marriage as follows: Frank, born November 11, 1889; Celia, born November 23, 1890; August, born March 21, 1891; Peter, born July 14, 1893; Edward, born February 14, 1895; Oscar E., born July 10, 1897; Hilda, born May 6, 1899; and Fred, born December 10, 1901. The family are members of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church in Huntington and are quiet but substantial people who are prospering and are active workers in behalf of their friends and neighbors.

Joachim: How are you? It has been a long time since we last shared information and I hope this message this reaches you. I continue to search for information about the "Maria/Mary" who married Franz Xaver "Frank" Schwab about 1850, and who came to St.Nazianz, WI about 1862. The last time we communicated, you provided me much information about the Schwab's but did not have much information about Mary. I have since learned that her maiden name was something like Pflester, Pfister or Fischer, and that she may have been born in Baden on 26 Mar 1824. Also, I have since learned that Frank Schwab came to NY City from Germany in Feb 1844, but it is unknown whether they married in Baden or America. Do you know if there were Pflester's, Pfister's or Fischer's that married with Schwab's in Hofstetten, Baden? Please let me know. Thank you. Tom Lutz

Message: Hello Ted, My Great Great Grandfather was John Wegman father of August my Great Grandfather. John passed on in 1885 at age 63 --FYI --. My ancestors are all buried in Holy Ghost Cemetary in Gates, New York up to and including relatives who passed in the last year or so. As far as I know, we are pure Kraut (note the capital "K"). We settled the Gates area back when it was still nice -- must have been a long time ago. The ancestoral home was on Wegman Road in Gates and was burned to the ground in 1940 due to a furnace fire. The house was 100 years old at the time. The structure that replaced it and atop the old foundation is still intact. Give me a hollar on what you know and perhaps we can swap stories. Warning --the Wegmans are an incurious group for some reason. My Dad couldn't care less about the past and ditto for my Grandfather and my Uncles. If it wasn't for my Mother and one of my Aunts who lived beyond 100 years, I am sure they would never have told a thing! Sounds like they were good guys who you were best NOT crossed, but preoccupied with working hard and making a comfortable living -- which they often did exceedingly well. regards, Richard Wegman

I do know that she was related to a family near Minneapolis, MN who had a pig farm. My mother and grandmother traveled to MN in the 1930s to see the farm. Margaret had her first child in 1857 and her husband was born in 1834, so my Margaret should be around that era. Any info would be great.

Birkenhoerdt, near Bad Bergzabern, in the Rheinland- Pfalz area of Germany, is the ancestral home of Balthasar Seibert (b. 1 Feb 1816) and Margaretha Wegman Seibert (b. March 1816). They married 25 May 1846 in Birkenhoerdt. Elisabeth Seibert (later Huntley) was b. 13 November 1846. This information is known to us through matching the names and birth dates of family members with information from the Catholic Church in Birkenhoerdt, which information has been transcribed and entered into the computerized records of the LDS (Mormon) Church. These records and the family connections may be confirmed on line at www.FamilySearch.com According to the records of FamilySearch, Balthasar Seibert had 3 brothers and sisters: Jacob b. 20 March 1819; Elisabetha Catharina b. 3 Jan 1824; and Antonius b. 16 September 1826. Jacob may have married Anna Maria Emanuel, 17 Feb 1846; he is believed to have gone to the DuQuoin, IL area at an unknown date with wife and family. It is uncertain what became of the other brother and sister. The lack of information about the sister, and the fact that her name was assigned to Balthasar's first child, leads me to theorize she may have died as an infant. Margaretha Wegman was one of 10 children; much information is available at www.FamilySearch. com. The Balthasar Seibert family emigrated to the U. S. either in 1849 (probable) or 1850, to Rochester, NY. There is an entry on the 1850 census which may belong to them (names may be misspelled), along with a possible brother of Margaretha Wegman named Andrew (Andreas) Wegman. Elisabeth is the only child known to have been born in Germany; her baptismal record is available. Her sister Emma, born either in NY or possibly in Germany, died as an infant, and is said to be buried in New York. Katherine Seibert was born in Rochester, NY in 1852, and Mary Seibert in Illinois in c. 1858. The Seiberts moved from NY to IL some time between 1852 and 1858, and spent most of their time either in or around DuQuoin, IL or Belleville, IL. Much additional information about the Seiberts and Wegmans in Germany is available through www. FamilySearch. com, and additional information is known about the Huntleys and Seiberts from family sources. We hope to write a "complete report" of the lives, family connections and life stories about the German families and the Huntleys in Caruthersville, sometime in the next few months._________________________________ This document was prepared 4/11/2001 by Robert Donnell, son of Evelyn McDonald Donnell, daughter of Elizabeth Huntley. Special debt of gratitude to Mac (Eugene F.) McDonald, of Jackson, Missouri, son of Eugene F. McDonald, MD, son of Elizabeth Huntley, for having made the connection to Birkenhoerdt through FamilySearch. com after 29 years of looking for this information! ________
