FRED AND HIS FATHER, VALENTINE, HERDED THE LIVESTOCK ALONG, THEY WALKED THE 45 MILES TO THEIR NEW HOME IN ONE WEEK. IT WAS LOCATED WEST OF VENTURIA, NORTH DAKOTA. THE AREA WAS CALLED KASSEL, AS WAS A NEARBY BAPTIST CHURCH. HE WORKED ON LOCAL THRESHING CREWS FROM 4 A.M. TO 10 P.M. PITCHING BUNDLES. HE EARNED 25 CENTS A DAY WHICH WAS DEDUCTED FROM VALENTINE BENDER'S THRESHING BILL. WHEN HE WAS 25 YEAR OLD HE AND HIS BRIDE MOVED TO A FARM SEVEN MILES NORTH OF VENTURIA, NORTH DAKOTA. THEY FARMED FOR 36 YEARS ON THIS FARM. IN 1950 THEY MOVED TO WISHEK, NORTH DAKOTA WHERE THEY LIVED UNTIL THEIR DEATHS. AFTER HIS RETIREMENT HE ENJOYED GARDENING AND FISHING. 25329 Rev. Carl A. Burkhardt Jr. passed away peacefully at home Sunday (3/8/09) surrounded by his family after living courageously with Parkinson's Disease for more than twelve years.
Carl received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from William Jewell College, Liberty, Mo., and his Theological Degree from Yale Divinity School, New Haven, Conn., and was ordained into Ministry in 1947. He provided ministry for over 50 years to congregations in Missouri and Nebraska, as well as serving in the Regional Office of the Christian Church in Nebraska.
Carl is survived by his devoted wife, Donna M. Burkhardt of 40 years. Children and their spouses: June Marie and husband, Dr. Douglas Hiza, Northfield, Minn.; Rev. Carl Thomas and wife, Lois Burkhardt, Des Moines, Iowa; Margaret and husband, Robert Chadwick, Belton, Texas; Linda Wilson Weichbrodt; Gayle and husband, Todd Gengenbach, Lincoln, Neb.; Lorrie and husband, John Klepper, Utica, Neb.; and Richard and wife, Shawna Hilbert, Lincoln, Neb. Richard was born April 20, 1926, to Christ and Lydia (Ehresman) Vilhauer on the family homestead near Hosmer, where he grew up.
Survivors: sister, Ramona Newcomb of Oklahoma; and brother, Dr. Melvin Vilhauer of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Alvin and Helmuth Vilhauer.

Eleanor M. Orth ? 1927 - 2004
Eleanor M. Orth, 76, Minot, died Friday, April 9, 2004, in her home.
Eleanor was born December 29, 1927, in Artas, South Dakota, the second child in a family of five girls, born to George and Bertha (Knoepfle) Vilhauer. She was raised and attended country school in that area.
On November 2, 1947, she married Edwin C. Orth, in Artas. They lived and farmed in Artas for five years, and then moved to Eureka, SD. They later moved to Mobridge, SD, and in May of 2001 she moved to Minot.
Eleanor did child-care for many years, as well as house-keeping for other people. She was a member of the Family Worship Center and also volunteered for a number of years at the Indian Bible College, both in Mobridge, SD. While living in Minot she was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors: Son, Darrell D. (Connie) Orth, Minot; daughters, Elaine (Daniel) Allerdings, Hardin, MT, and Darnelda (Moses) Saleh, Iowa Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Jeremy and Justin Orth, Joel, Joshua and Jessica Saleh, and Jason (Lisa) Allerdings, Monica (Matt) Kaufman and Derrick Allerdings; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Allerdings, Andrew Allerdings and Alyca Kaufman; sisters, DeVona Knoepfle, Cottonwood, AZ, Anelia Lane, Mounds View, MN, and Lila (Wendell) Rector, West Fargo, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin C. Orth, son, Dennis Orth, parents, George and Bertha Vilhauer, and a sister, Florence Ebel.
Funeral: Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at the First Assembly of God Church, Minot, ND.
Visitation: Tuesday, one hour prior to the service in the church.

Funeral Mass for Dack Vilhauer Heiser, 18 of Baker will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2005 at St. John's Catholic Church in Baker with Father Thomas Tobin, celebrating. Burial will follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Baker. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 17, 2005 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home in Baker and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Baker. Dack Joseph Vilhauer Heiser?s time on this earth was cut tragically short by an automobile accident on August 15, 2005. Dack was born November 26, 1986 in Hettinger, ND and was welcomed into this world by a loving family. He received the sacrament of baptism at St. Bonaventure?s Catholic Church in McIntosh, SD. Before moving to Baker, MT, Dack blessed his Grandparents and Aunt and Uncle with an immeasurable amount of cherished memories. Upon moving to Montana, many of Dack?s childhood memories included hunting, playing videogames and rough-housing with his brothers. He attended grade school in Baker and was involved in basketball, football, and swim team in middle school. He attended religious instruction at St. John?s Catholic Church and sealed his commitment of faith at confirmation. He had the opportunity to deepen his spirituality by attending (TEC) Teens Encounter Christ in March and desired for other teens to attend. He graduated with the Baker High School Class of 2005 and was excited to further his education at MSU in Bozeman this fall. Dack?s attributes were many including his soft-spoken manner, deep love for his family that he proudly displayed, kindness and compassion, and his emotional softness. From a young age on to adulthood, Dack wore many hats while working at the family owned businesses. Mature beyond his years, he was always capable of managing the next challenge. Welcoming Dack into heaven are his great grandparents Christ and Clara Vilhauer and Lawrence and Gertrude Kahl; and his grandmother, Sharon Stugelmeyer. Those blessed by having shared in his life are his parents CB and Laurie Heiser, brothers Chris, Curtis and Cody Heiser, all of Baker; grandparents Harvey and Beverly Vilhauer, Baker, aunt and uncle, Mark and Bobbie Jo Vilhauer and their daughter, Brodi of Miles City, aunt Candace Vilhauer of Sidney and her children Tanner Sander of Sidney, Tara Sander of Bismarck, ND and Trevor Sander of Baker, and uncle and aunt Kelly and Angela Heiser and their children Sara and Mike of Baker.

Robert and Helen Mettler

Robert Valentine Mettler was born April 15, 1929 in McPherson County to Daniel
V. and Mary Bauer Mettler. He grew up on a farm 12 miles northeast of Eureka and
farmed with his parents until June 20, 1948 when he married Helen Ottenbacher.
They farmed together until 1969 when they moved to Eureka where Robert began
working for Schaeffer Manufacturing.

Helen worked at the Borscht Kettle and Luncheonette until 1977 when she became
a home health aide for the State of South Dakota.

Robert has two older brothers: Melvin of Gresham, Oregon and Howard of Eureka.

His father, Daniel Valentine Mettler, was born in McPherson County to Valentine
and Anna Maria Hoff Mettler July 24, 1892. He died December 13, 1973. His mother
Mary Bauer Mettler was born to John and Katharina Wohlgemuth Bauer in Campbell
County March 21, 1894. She died May 12, 1984.

Helen was born in Campbell County February 9, 1930 to William and Christina
Heiser Ottenbacher. Her father William, Sr. was born in South Russia April 17,
1887. He came to Eureka at the age of two with his parents, Jacob and Katharina
Bouder Ottenbacher. He died January 15, 1959. Her mother, Christina Heiser, was
born in Campbell County December 5, 1892 to Johannes and Christina Schick
Heiser. She died April 1, 1966.

Helen was one of eleven children. Her brothers are: Gottlieb, Otto, Walter, who
is deceased, William G., Adolph, Oscar, Alvin and Milbert who is deceased; two
sisters: Martha and Ella who both died in infancy.

Robert and Helen are the parents of two daughters:

Pamela, born September 1, 1950 and married Keith Zimmerman. They have three
daughters: Jessica and Jennifer who are twins and Lee Ann. They live in Eureka.

Ruby was born February 4, 1960 and married Kenneth Beck. They have two sons:
Matthew and Marcus and live on a farm north of Artas, South Dakota.

WV., died Sunday, November 27, 2005.
He was born June 11, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, PA.,
the son of the late Walter and Julianne Dembinski
Sobray.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic
Church; a co-owner of the former Sobray?s Bakery,
and he was a retired salesman with Berry Supply.
He was a US Navy veteran.
Bob was a star athlete in football and basketball
at Warwood High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in
death by his brothers Louis, Walter, Leonard,
Henry, Arthur (Dutch), Richard (Dick), William
(Bill), Eugene, and Daniel Sobray; his sisters,
Barbara McCoy, Martha Sobray, Gertrude Baldwin,
Elizabeth (Betty) Letzelter, and Regina Kozub.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Magee Sobray; his
son, William of Fort Walton Beach, FL., daughters,
Lynne Keller (Douglas), and Dr. Janice Sobray
(William Novick), of Wheeling; grandchildren,
Christopher Sobray (Amy), Jonathan Sobray,
Kristina Keller Walden (Jeremy Jeffrey Keller,
Christopher, Robert, and Thomas Grammar, Tara,
William, and Nicholas Novick; great-grandchildren,
Kylie and Christian Robert Sobray.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service,
Saturday, December 3, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. at
Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Father Eugene
S. Ostrowski officiating.

HUNTINGTON -- Robert E. "Cheesy" Murphy, 71, died Wednesday in his home. The Huntington native was a Korean War Army veteran and retired from Fisher Engineering. Survivors include wife, Martha (Holzinger); daughters, Kathy Dill and Tamera Minniear, both of Huntington; siblings, Pat, Bluffton, and Betty Gaskill, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren. Services are at 10 a.m. Friday in Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Drive, with Russell Buzzard officiating. Burial is in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, funeral home. Memorials may be made to Parkview Home Health Care and Hospice or Cancer Services of Huntington County, in care of the funeral home.

Robert (Cheesy) Murphy Corporal - U.S. Army Served February 3, 1953 - January 7, 1955
Born in Huntington, Indiana, Mr. Murphy entered the Army at age 20, serving during the Korean War, primarily in the Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment. For his service he earned the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Robert J. "Bobbie" Daniels, age 59, of Whitewater, died on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at his home. He was born in Fort Atkinson, WI, on January 26, 1952, son of John J. and Lee (Bruch) Daniels. He graduated from Whitewater High School and worked with his father in the family business, John Daniels Builders, building many homes in the Whitewater area and around Southern Wisconsin. They built the first building in the Whitewater Industrial Park. He was also the owner of R. J. Builder of Whitewater and built many manufacturing buildings in the area, and was a partner in the Bartolotta Fireworks. Surviving are his mother, Lee Daniels of Whitewater; his sister, Marylee (Robert) Kantin of Park City, UT; one uncle, Max Bruch of Butternut, WI; cousin, Gary Entress of Texas; and other cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Daniels Jr.; his uncles: Emil, Warren, Harlow, and Walter Entress; and his cousin, Lawrence Entress. Funeral services Aug. 4, 2011, at the OLSEN FUNERAL HOME in WHITEWATER, WI, with Rev. Jonathan Rossman officiating. Burial in the Hillside Cemetery, in Whitewater, WI.
