| 23203 | Otto Michael Schafer (son of Michael John Schafer and Barbara Marie Fix) was born 29 Jul 1921 in Grant County, North Dakota, and died 18 Aug 2001 in Havre, Montana. He married (1) Clara Naomi Dawson on 14 Sep 1949 in Fallon, North Dakota, daughter of Ralph Dawson and Ora Helmick. He married (2) Iona Hostetter on 22 May 1977 in Havre, Montana, daughter of Charles Hostetter and Ethel Bussey. Includes NotesNotes for Otto Michael Schafer: What little I can remember of my growing up years! Was born on July 29, 1921 and had one older brother, Leo.Leo and I attended Otter Creek School #1, a couple of miles from our home, from the 3rd grade through the 8th.We had a buggy and horse, and later a team, to drive to school for those years. The 1st and 2nd grades were completed at Fallon Parocial School about 20 miles from home .We boarded there Monday through Friday.I attended Flasher High School and graduated in 1940. ( Editors Note:Flasher High School was "graced" with the M. J. Schafer siblings for 20 years, the editor, being the youngest graduating in 1960) Due to my inherited affliction of asthma and hay fever, I didn't have much of a future in agriculture, so the folks and Leo did the farming and sacrificed, so I could have another way of life.Ironically, I still stayed in agriculture, but instead of being out in the field, I helped the economyby standing behind the counter of machine dealers and helped the farmers get their crops in and out, for about 30 years. During that time, I was married and the father of four children, Paulette, Joan, Nicholas, and Laurel. They are all grown up and married and have families of their own.Everyone of them are successful and doing very well.I never talk about them, except to brag! In 1975, I was invited to join brohter Dick in the insurance business, in Havre, Montana, and have been here ever since.I have sold out my share of the business since then, but since we never have had a cross word in 20 years, he still lets me come in and help with phones and have a place to go when I get tired of sitting around home.I am also presently engaged in the bail bond business and have my HQ at the Insurance office. In 1975 I marriedIona McEwen Hosteter, and we are still greeting the day together, choosing to face the world together. We have 10 grandchildren and 2 great grand children and we love them all! She also was a former president of the Women's Professional Council and the International Association of Independent Information rofessionals, and she was on the board of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include her husband, Robert Johnston; a daughter, Kaitlyn Johnson; a stepson, Nicolas Johnston; and a sister, Peggy Wegmann Benson. A funeral was held Wednesday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. Burial was in All Saints Mausoleum. | Wegmann, Pamela Ann (I17982)

Statt & Barbara Geist The Holy Ghost Cemetery in Gates, Monroe, New York This cemetery is located in the Town of Gates across the street from the Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, which is at 220 Coldwater Road. It is difficult to date the official beginning date of this cemetery. The Church was organized in 1876 and the cemetery probably began soon after. Church records for the Rochester diocese were filmed in the mid-1980s. Because of privacy concerns, only the records up to December 31, 1910 were filmed. The earliest existing records for Holy Ghost Church begin on January 1, 1909. Thus, a few burial records from 1909 (4 records) and 1910 (8 records) are also included. The tombstone inscriptions in this list were copied in August 1993 by Richard T. Halsey. Indexed. Page: 412 http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~george/germhome.html In 1713, forty-odd Germans left their homes in Nassau-Siegen expecting to mine silver in the New World. In 1717, about eighty Germans left their homes in southwest Germany expecting to go to Pennsylvania. Neither of these groups fulfilled its expectations. Instead, they became guardians of the frontier in Virginia and a vanguard in the westward expansion of English civilization on the North American continent. The "1st Colony" arrived in Virginia in 1714; the "2nd Colony" arrived in 1717 The Second Germanna Colony came from many different villages which were mostly south and east of Heidelberg with a few from outside this area. They worked seven years for Spotswood and his partners in naval stores projects and in vineyards. When they did move, they went about twenty-five miles farther west to land in the Robinson River Valley at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. This again was an extremely exposed position but they chose this general region because land there was free at the time and there were few or no English settlers which gave them space for expansion. By religion they were predominantly Lutheran. In 1740, they built a church which is still being used today as a Lutheran church (it is now the oldest building in the Americas still in use as a Lutheran church). The makeup of the Second Germanna Colony is a topic of continuing research and interest. The area around Madison, VA, where they eventually settled was the home of dozens of families of German origin, beginning with those who came on the ill-fated voyage with Capt. Scott. A relatively small number of families made that voyage, and the table below shows the families that are most likely to have come at that time. Many more families arrived in the years that followed, either directly to Virginia, or through ports such as Philadelphia. A second table shows some of those families. Those coming on the ship Scott in 1717 Milcker, John Michael Muhlecker, Hans Michael no further record | Müllecker, Johannes Michael (I19157)
