    Birth:
Born at home at 215 W. Sherman Avenue in Peoria.
Birth certificate actually says Mary Anna Gravois.
Baptized 1-1-1922 at St. Mark's in Peoria. Bill Boland and Clementine Grawey Boland (her aunt and uncle) were godparents. Confirmed 5-9 1929 at St. Marks. Sponsor was Bette (Elizabeth) Wierschem Sieks (her 3rd cousin).
Married at St. Mark's Catholic Church. Father Fitzgerald was priest.
Aunt Louise Grawey taught her how to bake cookies and cakes. Mary Ann would walk to her house below Western hill in Peoria when she was in grade school. Several other cousins would go there and hang out with Aunt Lou.

Took piano lessons for only 1 year around 3rd grade from her Uncle Fred. Played ragtime style with very active left hand. Learned to play a march called "Frat" which was written by John F. Barth. It was published in Cleveland in 1910 and is still available online at the Duke University Special Collections Library. Maryann told her daughter, Christine, that the author was her grandfather's (Henry Barth's) brother (her great-uncle). However, we have no information that Henry Barth had any siblings. It is possible that Henry's father, John F. Barth, had another son named John.

Note: Second youngest of 6 children. Worked at home as a kid because her mother and father worked in their bakery, and so she didn't finish grade school because she had to stay at home to take care of the youngest child. Lived above the bakery, which was on Lincoln Avenue in Peoria across from Lincoln Park. She would play in the park and take the younger child there to play. Also, there was a library near there where she spent a lot of time. Married at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Drove to church in horse and buggy. Had cousins who lived in Germany. She wrote to them and they referred to their Uncle Henry and Aunt Anna Barth. They lived on a farm in Huberhof, Germany and worked in town in Zweibrucken, Germany. In the letters, the German cousins also referred to other cousins who lived in Otterbach and Lambsheim and Hohenecken, Germany. In the 1950's, she became very ill and the doctors diagnosed cancer. Before going into the hospital for surgery, she made a novena to Saint Therese of the Child Jesus (Therese of Lisieux - The Little Flower - A Doctor of the Catholic Church). When she went for surgery, the doctors were astounded to find no cancer.
