He brought his family to America in about 1855 and was a mason in Erie County, PA. Giving his age as 44 - he was by then about 55 years old - he enlisted on 13 December 1861 in Erie and mustered into service there as Private, Company H, 111th Pennsylvania Infantry on 21 December.


On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
