August C. F. Schuetz was born in Okawville on June 2, 1885. August was a very prominent farmer and married Emma C. Lemgo on October 24, 1909. To them, five children were born: Bertha Louise Chrislena Schuetz (1910 - ????), Lulu Louise Schuetz (1916 - ????), Emma Amanda Schuetz (1919 - ????), August Herman Fred Schuetz (1923 - 1977), and Violet Elenora Amelia Schuetz (1930 - ????). August Schuetz, sr., lived a long life that spanned ninety-two years and died on November 23, 1977.

Peter Schütz was born in Thalfröschen on November 29, 1821. He was baptized on November 30th. Peter was the second son of Johann Peter Schütz and Maria Leichel. His father was a horsesmith and mentored his son in the family craft. He became a blacksmith, along with his older brother Carl. In 1836, Peter?s mother died when he was only fourteen. On June 4, 1844, Peter was united in marriage to Louise Burkhard in the Protestant church of Thaleischweiler. This union was blessed with six children; a seventh, Adam, died in infancy. Peter?s father died at the age of seventy in 1855 and was buried in Thalfröschen.

After their son Daniel was born, Peter and Louise decided to have another son to receive a bonus from the government. This bonus was military exemption. When their last child turned out to be a girl, they held their situation for a few more years until 1867, when the Austro-Prussian War was on the horizon. They were basically draft-dodgers but their intentions were good; Peter and Louise were very peaceful Germans that did not approve of war and definitely did not want their precious sons drafted. On May 11, 1867, they departed from the port of Le Havre on the steamer ship Tampico. After a relatively short journey, they arrived at Castle Garden in New York on May 29th.

From New York, they traveled a long journey to southern Illinois, around 1868 they came by wagon train through Mascoutah to Johannisburg, where they decided to settle. They went first to Plum Hill, then to Venedy. From there, they scattered around New Memphis, Okawville, and Venedy. It is said that when the Schuetz wagon train passed the school in Venedy that all the children came out to watch it go by.

Peter and Louise lived in Venedy in the 1870?s and Peter worked as a laborer. He believed in giving his children an education and sent them to school. Peter made quite a name for himself and his family and they became very prominent in Washington County.

The winter of 1879 was a bitterly cold one and Peter developed pneumonia on January 9th. He died five days later on the 14th from a severe fever at the age of fifty-seven. The funeral was held the next day at the family home and he was buried in the cemetery at St. John?s United Church of Christ of Johannisburg on the 16th.

Peter married Luise Katharina Burkhard on 4 Jun 1844 in Thalfröschen, Pfalz, Bayern. Luise (daughter of Friedrich Joseph Burkhard and Philippina Luise Keller) was born on 12 Mar 1825 in Thalfröschen, Pfalz, Bayern; died on 20 May 1904 in Venedy Township, Washington County, Illinois, USA. ohann Peter Schütz, the son of the well-known master smith Johann Wendel Schütz, was born on June 23, 1784 in Thalfröschen, Germany. He was the descendant of a prominent and well-respected line and trained under his father to become a blacksmith. He married first to Maria Elisabetha Leichel and had five children Carl Frederich, Anna Maria, Magdalena, Peter, and Georg Jacob Schütz. Sons Carl and Peter also became blacksmiths and later immigrated to the United States. Georg Jacob, the youngest son, became a carpenter and died in his early twenties. Daughters Anna and Magdalena both married and had families in Germany.

After the death of his first wife, Johann Peter Schütz married to Philippina Louise Keller on September 29, 1839. A daughter, Elisabetha Schütz, was born to them the next year. Elisabetha married Jacob Jung in Germany and had a small family. Their son, Jacob Jung, jr., immigrated in 1883 and traveled with a relative named Wendel Jung to the port of New York. From there, Jacob traveled west and met up with the family of his Uncle Peter Schütz in Illinois. Jacob Jung died in the 1920's leaving several children.

Reaching the age of seventy years, Johann Peter Schütz left for the better land on February 12, 1855.

Johannes married Maria Elisabetha Leichel about 1810 in Thalfröschen, Pfalz. Maria (daughter of Johannes Ludwig Leichel and Maria Margaretha Ludl) was born on 16 May 1783 in Thalfröschen, Pfalz; was christened on 18 May 1783 in Thalfröschen, Pfalz; died on 12 Jun 1836 in Thalfröschen, Pfalz, Bayern.
