    E. Mildred Scher, 97 A former Bluffton resident, E. Mildred Scher, 97, of Berne, died at 7:20 a.m. today, Nov. 14, at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne. Born in Blackford County on Feb. 15, 1906 to Forrest and Anna Smith Brown, she married Joseph W. Scher on July 5, 1928 in Portland; he died July 13, 1984. Mrs. Scher spent most of her life in Jay County before moving to Bluffton in1985. She was a nurse?s aid at the Caylor-Nickel Medical Center for 15 years and was a member of the Pennville American Legion Auxiliary and the Society of Indiana Pioneers. She had been a resident at Swiss Village since 1995. She is survived by two sons, Joseph ?Jay? Scher of Venice, Fla. and Norbert ?Dee? Scher of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Services are scheduled for Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Glancy Funeral Home, Walker Chapel in Montpelier. Visitation hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne and for one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home. Burial in Twin Hill Cemetery in Pennville. Preferred memorials to Swiss Village, American Diabetes Association or Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.

    Mildred married Joseph Francis Scher on 5 Jul 1928 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana, USA. Joseph (son of Joseph William Scher and Maria Magdalena Güll) was born on 10 Apr 1900 in Huntington, Huntington County, Indiana, USA; died on 10 Apr 1984 in Huntington, Huntington County, Indiana, USA.
