Longtime resident Peggy Ann Schaff Shaffer, 65, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Hot Springs County Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis following an illness of cancer.
Born May 21, 1946 in Dickinson, N.D., she was one of three children born to Victor and Matilda (Daum) Schaff. The family moved to Thermopolis shortly after Peggy's birth. She graduated from Thermopolis High School.
On March 8, 1964 she married Edward Shaffer in Cody. They soon moved to Owl Creek to work for Clarke Jackman, then to the HD Ranch in 1967 where they made their home for 33 years and raised their family. They moved into Thermopolis in 2000 where Peggy was employed at the Independent Record from 1999 to 2010. She then worked at the Hot Springs County Museum in 2011.
Peggy's passions were ranching and sharing Christ. Most important to her were her relationships with Christ, family, grandkids and friends. She was involved in 4-H, Cowbelles, Historical Society and Women's Connection. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for more than 30 years.
She enjoyed family, fishing, camping, oil painting, and canning/gardening.
She was preceded in death by her father, Victor; and nephew, Kyle Blacketer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 18 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Thermopolis with Pastor Harvey Seidel officiating. Burial will follow at Monument Hill Cemetery.
In Peggy's memory, memorials may be made to the Hot Springs County Museum and Cultural Center, 700 Broadway, Thermopolis, Wyo. 82443.
