The funeral service for Mildred Kirschenmann, 88, of Roscoe, is at10:30 am Wednesday at the UCC-Congregational Church in Ipswich. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery in Roscoe at 2:00 pm Wednesday.
Mildred was born October 13, 1923 to Ralph and Edna (Gange) Oban on a farm near Loyalton, SD. She was raised on the family farm and attended school in Loyalton.
She married Elmer Kirschenmann on July 2nd, 1941. They made their home on a farm in the northeast corner of Montpelier Township southwest of Beebe, SD. Together they farmed and raised cattle.
After Elmer passed away in 1996, Mildred continued to live on the farm. She gradually gave up tractors for a riding lawnmower so she could continue to enjoy being outside while she mowed her large farm yard. She loved to crochet. Her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and special friends all received an afghan that they will always cherish. When she wasn?t crocheting, she spent time with word-find books. Her entire family will remember her for her dumplings and strudels. She loved to visit with family and friends and remained mentally sharp to her dying day.
Mildred passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 17th, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Ipswich following a brief illness.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Dianne (Glenn) Spitzer of Aberdeen: Roy (Judy) Kirschenmann of Roscoe and Edward Kirschenmann of Ipswich; sisters, Louise ?Pat? (Vernard) Schmitt of Huntley, MT and Joyce Vargason of Bismarck, ND; Brother, Vernon ?Johnny? (Verna) Oban of Ipswich; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; brothers, Ralph, Jr. and Wilbur ?Bud?; and sisters, Lucille, Ruby and Virginia; daughter-in-law, Tonya.
