- BIOGRAPHY:
MEITZLER - Frederick Benjamin Meitzler, 80, of Hendersonville, died Friday afternoon at his residence following an extended illness. He was a native of Frederick, Maryland and lived in Henderson county for 20 years. He was a son of the late Charles Elmer and Anna Leona Meitzler and graduated from Peabody Conservatory with a Bachelor's degree in music. He was a member of Upward Seventh Day Adventist Church. He served in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sargeant. While a member of the 42nd infantry, Rainbow Division, he was a liberator of Dachau. He was one of the top district managers with Prudential Life Insurance Company and was known for his leadership abilities. He was a trumpeter in many well known bands and performed with members of other well known big bands including ones affiliated with Jimmy Dorsey, Lawrence Welk, Gene Furnette and Ted Clark. Music was one of the most important parts of his life, and he really enjoyed a good joke. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Babette ``Bette'' Meitzler; one son, Frederick Lee Meitzler, Sr. of Spartanburg, SC; two daughters, Wendy Meitzler White of Valkaria, FL and Mary Beth Segrest of Geneva, FL; one sister, Dr. Elizabeth Lebherz of Gulf Port, MS; six grandchildren, and three Great grandchildren. A Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at the Upward Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor John Sweigart, officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:00 PM prior to the service, at the church. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. SHULER & LUCK FUNERAL HOME is in charge of Arrangements.
