Arthur Henry Jarvie
Arthur Henry Jarvie, age 81, of Rudyard, Mich., died Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at home with his family at his side. He was born July 14, 1930 in Rudyard, the son of Eino Ilmari and Goldie Arlene (Griswald) Jarvi.
Art grew up on the family farm in Rudyard. He served in the United States Army where he was wounded in Korea and disabled. After returning home, he met Geraldine Mildred Schaub while visiting his aunt in Traverse City, Michigan. He and Geraldine married on February 14, 1953 in Traverse City. They made their home on Jarvie Road between Rudyard and Pickford and raised their family.
Art was a member of the former English-Wallis VFW Post #4905 in Rudyard. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, woodworking, reading, automobiles, and backyard mechanics. His children cherish memories of fishing trips in remote areas of Canada.
Art is survived by his wife, Geraldine; three sons, Alan (Margaret) Jarvie, James (Tina) Jarvie, and Daniel (Kim) Jarvie, all of Rudyard; and one daughter, Diane Brabant, also of Rudyard; three grandchildren, Jessica JoAnn Jarvie, Michelle Marie Jarvie, and Danielle Marie Brabant; and one great grandchild, Riley Ann Rolison. He is also survived by four brothers, Elmer (Junia) Jarvie of Gulf Shores, Ala., Delbert (Jean) Jarvie of Rudyard, Ted (Judy) Jarvie of Grand Rapids, and Gale Jarvie of Rudyard and four sisters, Fay Elsholz of Rudyard, Donna (Robert) Toft of Mill Valley, Calif. Sally Vannettan of Roseville, Mich., and Arlene Burelli of San Lorenzo, N.M..
Art was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mitzi Thimmes; brothers, Dareld Jarvie and Earl Jarvie; and grandchildren, Tom Jarvie, Nick Jarvie, and Jason Jarvie.
Art?s visitation and funeral service will be private. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Bruce Township, Michigan.
