LEAD | Patricia Ruth Mettler passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren on March 29, 2014.
Pat was born Friday, Oct. 13,1926, in Milligan, NE, to Otto and Doris Hasik and was the first of five children. She graduated from Vermillion High School and the University of South Dakota with a major in sociology and a minor in music and business. She was a member of the honors band and choir.
Pat started her teaching career in a country school in Menno, SD, this is where she met and married LuVern Mettler on Feb. 24, 1947. The couple started their partnership in the bakery business and had shops in Menno, Freeman, Lead and Lincoln, NE. Pat also was a secretary for the Dean of Students of the Sioux Falls College.
Pat was very involved in many organizations throughout her life, including the Republican Women, Business and Professional Women, and Chamber of Commerce. She was a 50-year member of the Golden Eastern Star. Pat was a faithful member of the Methodist church in Sioux Falls, Lead and Lincoln, where she sang in their choirs.
Pat is survived by her brother, Boyd (Mel) Hasik of California; daughters, Mary Denton, Rapid City, Carol (Tom) Job, Topeka, KS, Barbara Mettler and Joan (Richard) Pinske, all of Billings, MT, and Jane (Greg) Crotty, Lead; son, Richard (Pat) Mettler, Lincoln; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vern; infant son, James; brother, Mike; sisters, Katherine and Marie; son-in-law, Lynn Denton; and many aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. June 13, at her daughter's home at 505 McClellan in Lead, with inurnment at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
