Adeline Orth Fuchs

Mrs. Fuchs was born Oct. 9, 1913, in Campbell County, S.D. She was the second child of eight siblings who lived to adulthood. Her parents were Henry and Eva Orth.
On June 28, 1934, she married Philip S. Fuchs in Herreid, S.D. The couple soon left and headed west to find their "fortune." They ran out of gas and money in Billings. They picked strawberries and beans, worked on ranches, farmed, and eventually built a home. In 1950, they built The Rollarena Skating Rink next to their home on North 18th in Billings.
The couple was blessed with six children: five sons and one daughter. Mr. Fuchs passed away in 1970 and Mrs. Fuchs continued to live in the same house until her health began to fail in 2001. At that time, she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law. She was also a resident of Butterfly Homes and, most recently, Magnolia Place II.
Adeline worked many jobs in her lifetime, besides that of a full-time mom. She was a member of RSVP and the Billings Senior Citizen Center for many years, and loved meeting with her card-playing ladies group. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church (until it disbanded), a Sunday School teacher, and held several offices in the Women's Missionary Group over the years. She was a generous woman who always had room at her table for a few more, and many felt the warmth of her welcoming spirit. She had a great sense of humor and would say something silly or make a face to make us smile when she wasn't overcome by pain.
Adeline is survived by her children, Jerry and Dee Fuchs of Minot, N.D., Jim and Fran Fuchs of Atlanta, Ga., Mearl and Maria Fuchs of Three Rivers, Mich., Skip Fuchs of Atlanta, Phyllis and Allen Green of Billings and Monty and Joyce Fuchs of Waynesville, N.C. She also has 19 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. Her sisters, both of Eureka, S.D., are Mrs. Ruth Stugelmeyer and Mrs. Alice (Walter) Pfeiffer; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Amanda Orth of Lodi, Calif., and Mrs. Ida Smith of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers and one grandchild.
She passed away peacefully, with her daughter holding her hand, at her home at Magnolia Place II, on Friday, May 13, 2005. She always told us that Friday the 13th was her "Lucky Day" and we do believe it. For that is the day that she got to walk with her Guardian Angel into heaven to meet Jesus. "God Bless You, Mom! ? See Ya later!"
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, at Smith's Downtown Chapel. Interment will follow at Mountview Cemetery.
