Alma Seimet

Alma A. Seimet, 92, of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Laurels of Defiance.
She was born in Defiance to John H. and Frances M. (Losh) Kunesh on April 23, 1921. On August 10, 1944, she married Sylvester H. "Bud" Seimet at Rossford, Ohio, who preceded her in death on April 25, 1989.
Alma was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, where she was a eucharistic minister for over 30 years for the shut-ins, a CCD teacher for 20 years, a member of its 55+ Club for Catholic Seniors, and the church's Christian Mother Altar Society. She also was a member of Catholic Daughters of America 648 and Catholic Ladies of Columbia Council 32, and an associate of Sisters of St. Agnes. Alma was very active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, having 50 years of service in each as a den mother, leader, trainer and advisor. She also was on the board for Catholic Scouts, and received the St. George and St. Anne awards from each organization. Alma was a board member for DASH, a life member of Ohio Moose Association and past regent for Women of the Moose Chapter 1246. Alma volunteered for the Red Cross for over 65 years, worked with the DARE program, and was a charter member of Maumee Valley Archers where she taught youth at day camps. She also was active with the Defiance County poll workers. Alma was known by many students as "The Leaf Lady" for over 35 years, helping them with their school projects. She also enjoyed being outside, travel, gardening, flowers - especially her roses, doing many kinds of crafts, sharing ideas and working with the youth.
Alma is survived by her sons, Albert (Kathy), Paul (Terry), and Neil (Connie) Seimet, all of Defiance. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Joan Simonis and Cassandra (Elias) Paniagua, both of Toledo, Paul Seimet of Columbus, and Jessica, Albert Jr. (Rose), Athena and Nathan Seimet, all of Defiance; five great-grandchildren, Dillon Bidlack, Mason Seimet, Caleb, Isabella and Silas Paniagua.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Carol F. Seimet; a sister, Mary Sponseller; and two brothers, John and Victor Kunesh.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, from 2-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, with Rev. Todd Dominique officiating.
