Description: A funeral Mass for Eleanor Hildman, 92, of Algona will be
held Friday, May 17, 2019, at 10:30 AM, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church. A
visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Thursday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of
Algona with a Rosary beginning at 4 PM and a Scripture Prayer Service
beginning at 6:30 PM.
Eleanor Ruth, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Dutton) Koppen was born
September 11, 1926, in Algona. She grew up in Cresco Township moving to
Livermore where she attended grade school. They moved to a farm near
Lakota where she graduated from high school in 1944. Following school,
Eleanor worked in Algona at Kent Manufacturing. Eleanor was married to
Aelred A. "Shorty" Hildman on June 29, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Livermore. The couple lived in Algona until 1950 when they moved
to their farm near Burt. They eventually moved back to Algona in 2005.
Eleanor loved being surrounded by her family. She enjoyed scrapbooking,
playing cards, golfing, and tending to her gardening and growing flowers.
Eleanor was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona.
Eleanor became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center in October of
2016. She died Sunday, May 12, 2019, at the age of 92.
She is survived by two daughters, Patricia DeGeeter and her husband Joe of
Bancroft and Kathleen Barnett and her husband Jim of Spencer; five
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Sheila McGuire and her
daughter Elizabeth of West Des Moines, Diane (John) McFarland of Elbert,
CO and their children Caleb and Kenneth, Brenda (Daniel) Marquis and their
daughter Eliana of Albuquerque, NM, Michael (Emma) Barnett and their
children Laurel and Linden of Kearney, NE, and Jennifer (Derrick)
Dykshoorn and their son Wyatt of Spencer; a sister-in-law; and many nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband on
November 7, 2005.

Description: Aelred Ambrose "Shorty" Hildman was born July 2, 1924, the
son of George and Sophia Wirth Hildman at their farm near St. Benedict,
Iowa. They later moved to a farm near Wesley. He attended St. Joseph
Catholic School in Wesley.
On June 29, 1948, Aelred was united in marriage to Eleanor Ruth Koppen at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore, Iowa. After their marriage the
couple lived in Algona until 1950 when they moved to their farm near Burt,
Iowa. Shorty was very passionate about his family and his farm. He was a
long time farmer near Burt, before moving back to Algona in 2005. He
enjoyed his grandchildren and their activities, golfing in the summer and
playing cards anytime. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church.
Shorty died Monday, November 7, 2005, at his home in Algona, Iowa, at the
age of 81.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor of Algona, Iowa; daughters, Patricia
(Joe) DeGeeter of Bancroft, Iowa; Kathleen (James) Barnett of Spencer,
Iowa; five grandchildren, Sheila (Michael) McGuire of West Des Moines,
Iowa; Diane (John) McFarland of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Brenda
DeGeeter of New Hope, Minnesota; Michael Barnett and Jennifer Barnett of
Spencer, Iowa; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth McGuire of West Des
Moines, Iowa. Also surviving is a sister, Mildred Martin of Humboldt,
Iowa; two brothers, Irwin Hildman of Wesley, Iowa; Leo Hildman of Britt,
Iowa; sister-in-law, Loretta Hildman of Humboldt, Iowa, and numerous
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Beatrice Neuroth,
Rosella Neuroth, and Adella Kellner; brother, Clair Hildman;
sister-in-law, Helen Hildman; two brothers-in-law Reese Martin and Cyril
Kellner.
