Birth: Jul. 19, 1904 Lincoln Lancaster County Nebraska, USA Death: Aug. 1, 1992 Lacey Thurston County Washington, USA Service for Bertha Jennette Vogel, 88, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Simpson United Methodist Church in Pullman followed by burial at Pullman City Cemetery. Mrs. Vogel, who died Saturday of a heart attack, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. She received a bachelor's degree in music appreciation from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1930. She was a music and art teacher and taught first through eighth grade at Asland Park School near Omaha, Neb. She taught from 1927-31. She married Orville A. Vogel, a wheat breeder with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in 1931. They made their home in Pullman and she worked part-time at the student book store. They moved to Lacey in 1989. Mr. Vogel died in 1991. Mrs. Vogel was a member of the Upsilon Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, the National Music Sorority, the Washington State University Foundation and the Washington State University Women's Club. She was also a member of the Pullman Federal Woman's Club, the Eliza Hart Spalding Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the College Hill Sewing Club and the Colonial Dames. She was a member of Simpson United Methodist Church, directed the church choir, participated in the Community Concert Association membership drives and was a member of the Concert Board for a term. She was also a charter member of the Moscow-Pullman Alumni Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. Survivors include a daughter, Evelyn M. Gullikson of Olympia; a son, Richard F. Vogel of Bellingham; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
