ZANESVILLE - Winifred T. "Winnie" Singer Hill, 88, of Zanesville, died at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at Genesis Extended Care & Rehab Center, after a brief illness.
She was born Tuesday, Nov. 20, 1917, in Noble County, the daughter of Alex and Minnie Schell Singer. She married the late Edgar F. Hill, who died June 28, 1964, and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. She retired after 28 years of service to Bishop Rosecrans High School. She was a member of the Knights of St. John, Catholic Women's Guild, Rambling Rose Group and an active participant of the Fieldhouse.
Winnie is survived by three daughters, Judith M. King and Joan E. (Chuck) Thomas, both of Zanesville and Sandra A. (Bill) Aschinger of Philadelphia; a son, William J. Hill and friend Bonnie Bendure of Zanesville; Mom Hill has 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elvira Schell of Heath; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Winnie was preceded in death by a son, Patrick K. Hill; four sisters; and three brothers.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 2, at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., with a Christian Vigil service being held at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2006, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church with Father Leo L. Connolly as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Rosecrans High School Foundation in Winnie's name.
