Son of Michael and Kate (Henry) Bast of Canton, Ohio, Rev. Father Victor A. Bast, S.S., A.M., S.T.B., Ph.D., was a Catholic priest of the Sulpician Order, and for many years a professor at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park, and St. Joseph's College in Mountain View, both in California. He attended Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, and St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore, Maryland, where he earned a degree in Sacred Theology in 1908. He was named a Doctor of Philosophy at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where he later taught, before going to San Francisco. He was professor of Mathematics, Greek, and Reading at St. Patrick's during the 1920s and was teaching Chemistry at St. Joseph's in Mountain View at the time of his death in 1937. Father Bast died from influenza while visiting family in Pasadena, at the age of 53.
