KING - Verna S., formerly of Louisville, died at her home in Shavertown, PA, on Friday, June 20, 2008. She was born March 12, 1925 in Louisville, a daughter of the late Peter and Virginia Lentz Silliman. She graduated from the Louisville Girls' High School and attended college, and during the 1940s she worked at Reynolds' Metals. After raising her family, she worked as a bookkeeper at Belknap Elementary and Atherton High Schools. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Floyd D. King; brother, Norman Silliman, and sister, Mary Lee Kaelin. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Jo Stern and Linda Tirpak, and her husband George, all of Shavertown; grandchildren, Jaron, Jardena, Jori, Jorah and Jordy Stern, Jason Wine and Cassie Tirpak; great-grandchild, Taylor Wine; sisters, Ella Mae Wildt, Virginia Hurst and Juanita Silliman, all of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ratterman and Sons, 3800 Bardstown Road, with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and after 10 a.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Louisville Zoo, PO Box 37250, Louisville, KY. 40233.
