VILLA GROVE ? Verlene Schmidt, 76, of Villa Grove died at 5:58 p.m. Sunday (March 27, 2011) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 31, at Immaculate Conception Church, Bongard, with Father Bowan Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bongard.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, at Joines Funeral Home, Illinois 130 South, Villa Grove.
Verlene was born on Oct. 5, 1934, a daughter of John and Clara (Happ) Rund.
She is survived by two sons, Duane (Josie) Schmidt of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Gary Schmidt of Urbana; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, LaVonne Martin of Bedford, Texas.
Mrs. Schmidt was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert, and son, Todd.
Verlene graduated from Villa Grove High School in 1952 and from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Kankakee, in 1956. She worked 32 years as a nurse at Carle Foundation Hospital in orthopedics and other areas.
She was a member of Carle Hospital Auxiliary Volunteering for 13 years. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bongard and served as an Ecumenical minister. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.
