Sara was a resident of Louisville, Kentucky at the time of her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leo.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Monday, August 22, 2011, at St. Raphael the Archangel; 2141 Lancashire Avenue, with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2 ? 8 PM, Sunday, at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home; 3800 Bardstown Road, with a prayer and memory sharing service to be held at 7:30 PM.

FANTE, SARA MARIE BYRD, 79, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2011 at home.
Sara was a member of St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church. She retired as the director of St. Raphael School's Special Reading Program which she instituted and then directed for 23 years. Her academic guidance, for many students over the years, has been appreciated.
Sara was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Leo William Fante; parents, John R. Byrd and Willie Edith Byrd; brothers, Claud Byrd, Bob Byrd; and sister, Wilma Bussell.
Survivors include her children, Leo R. Fante (Mary), Greg A. Fante (Jo) and Stephen P. Fante (Scott Wilson); grandchildren, Kristina Fante Peterson (Justin), Leo Joseph Fante, Sara Madison Fante and Calvin E. Fante; seven sisters, Naomi Boran, Mary Issacs, Carolyn Madole, Shirley Solam, Bonnie Riley, Jody Bettie and Vicki Wright; three brothers, John Byrd, Jr., Ben Byrd and David Byrd; also by her caregiver and friend, Ms. Gail Baumgartner.
