Russell M. Pituch, 86, of Arnold died Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) in Harmar Village Care Center, Harmar, after a lingering illness.
He was born Nov. 10, 1914, in Arnold, and was a lifelong resident of the Valley
A graduate of Arnold High School, he attended Penn State University, New Kensington campus, for 3Ý years.
He joined the Army in 1944 and served in administration until 1946 when he was discharged.
He began a career at Alcoa, New Kensington, in 1935 and later was transferred to the Wear Ever building, where he was Westmoreland Sterling sales correspondent. Later he was named head of the employee and customer service department, retiring in 1968.
Mr. Pituch was a member of Arnold United Methodist Church and the Tyrian F&AM Lodge 644. A former Arnold councilman, he served with the late Dr. Harold Thomas on the city Civil Defense team. He joined Arnold Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 in 1935, was named a life member, was a former fire chief and was one of the first members of the Arnold Fire Department Board.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Dorothy E. Hill Pituch; a son, Ronald R. Pituch of Larkspur, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Marlene M. Sinagra) of Oakland, Calif.; a stepson, Dennis Gourley of Herminie; three grandchildren; a stepgrandchild; a stepgreat-grandchild; and two brothers, John Pituch of Winter Park, Fla., and Eugene Pituch of New Kensington.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Beveridge Pituch; his parents, Wasil and Eva Capp Pituch; two brothers, Anthony and Raymond Pituch; and two sisters, Mary Dyrkacz and Olga Zorena.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the RUSIEWICZ OF ARNOLD FUNERAL HOME, 1400 Fifth Ave., where services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Officiating will be the Rev. Joseph Yurko. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell. Memorial services will be conducted by the Masons at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, followed by the Arnold Fire Department at 7:30 p.m.
