Richard "Dick" Irvin Hendershot, 81 of Whipple, OH passed away after a short illness on Monday June 29, 2009 at 1:10 PM at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1928 in Dalzell, Washington County, OH to the late Thomas Irvin and Estella Isadora Schofield Hendershot.
Dick graduated from Salem-Liberty High School in 1947, served in the U.S. Army with the rank of Staff Sgt. during the Korean Conflict while stationed in Germany. He worked as a distributor for 7-Up Bottling Co., and later retired from B.F. Goodrich and R.J.F. International. Dick was a member of the Church of Christ, Muskingum Valley Twirlers Club, Charter Member of the Little Muskingum V.F.D., Masterson Lodge # 429 F. & A. M. as well as Masterson O.E.S. # 584, he also was a Liberty Township Trustee and on the Executive Central Committee Washington County Democratic Party
He is survived by his wife whom he married September 14, 1951 in Washington D.C, Mary Binegar Hendershot, daughter Debra Elliott of Marietta, sons Rick (Terry) and Steve Hendershot both of Dalzell, grandchildren Tiffany Bailey (Brad) of Wingett Run, Matthew Hendershot of Dalzell, Maggie, Lacey and Courtney Hendershot all of Marietta, former daughter-in-law Tina Erb Hendershot.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings Mae Doyle, June Wolfert, Ruth West, Paul, Gene and Ralph Hendershot.
Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 AM at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel 1021 Pike St. with Richard Saltzwedel officiating, burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday at the Funeral Home with a Masonic Service held at 8:00 PM by Masterson Lodge #429 F. & A. M.
