  [S927] Obituary. Reno Schnabel, 83 October 14, 1921 - November 11, 2004 Funeral services for Reno E. Schnabel were held Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., at Friedens Reformed United Church of Christ, Tripp, with the Rev. Greg Way officiating. Music was furnished by the Friedens Men?s Choir, and Shelly Finck, organist. Interment was made in the church cemetery with military rites by Jelkin-Harms American Legion Post #142. Goglin-Kelley Funeral Home, Tripp, was in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Maurice Bueber, Charles Hoenke, Bob Schnabel, Craig Schnabel, Jerry Schnabel, and Jim Schnabel. Reno Elton Schnabel was born on October 14, 1921, on the family farm northeast of Tripp in Hutchinson County, to Karl and Christina (Wiederrich) Schnabel. He attended country grade school at Schlenker District #19. He entered the Army in August of 1942, and served oversears in WWII, beginning in Africa and later in Sicily, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He received a Purple Heart during his military service. He was discharged in October of 1945 and returned home to continue his farming. He married Mildred Lunn on September 26, 1948, at Friedens Reformed United Church of Christ in Tripp. They retired to Parkston in 1997. He was a member of the Elks Club in Mitchell and the Moose Lodge in Mitchell, the Tripp American Legion, the Sharon Township Board and Friedens Consistory. He died on Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston at the age of 83 years. He is survived by two sons, Gary (Jody) Schnabel, Tripp, and Kurt (Melissa) Schnabel, Parkston; daughter, Julie (Dave) Gray, Hill City; daughter-in-law, Deb Schnabel, Parkston; 11 grandchildren, Jenny, Joshua and Megan Gray, and Craig, Shawn, Brett, Andrew, Kyle, Kailee, Jason and Jeffrey Schnabel; one sister, Lilly Hoenke, Parkston; two brothers, Curtis (Ethy) Schnabel, Tripp, and Ruben (Inez) Schnabel, Alexandria; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Schnabel, Tripp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, on August 4, 2000; his son, Richard, on November 8, 2003; his parents; a brother, Roland; and brother-in-law, Gerhardt Hoenke.
