Christman OPELOUSAS - Funeral services for Nelrose K. Christman, 76, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, in Sibille Funeral Chapel in Opelousas, La. Interment will be in St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery in Opelousas, La. ADVERTISEMENT Ms. Nelrose, a resident of Opelousas, died at 5:05 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at Opelousas General Health System after a brief Illness. Nelrose graduated from Opelousas High School In 1946 and from St. Joseph's School of Nursing, University of Texas, Houston, Texas in 1949. She also obtained a teaching Certificate in Vocational-Technical Education from USL and LSU. She was first employed as a Staff R.N. at St. Landry Clinic Hospital and for Dr. Fredrick J. Mayer Sr. until his death in 1965. She then became a Vocational-Technical School Instructor at T. H. Harris in Opelousas, La. from 1965 thru 1979, when she became Department Head of Health Occupations until her retirement in 1993. She then worked part-time as a Staff R.N. at Senior Village Nursing Home from 1993 until 1999. Ms. Christman was a member of the American Nurses Association, American Vocational Association, Louisiana Vocational Association, Louisiana State Nurses Association, American Association of Retired Persons and a Member of Associated Nursing Alumni of St. Joseph's School of Nursing In Houston, Texas. Ms Nell was a lifetime parishioner of St. Landry Catholic Church. Musical selections will be provided by Ernie McKinney. Songs will include "Ave Maria", "I Walk in The Garden" and "St. Francis of Assisi Prayer". Survivors include a brother, Joseph Bengueral Christman; and several cousins. Ms. Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Josie Chachere Christman; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Chachere; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Christman; and several aunts and uncles. Pallbearers will be Gerald Chachere, Dr. Gerald Chachere, Henry V. Smith and Joseph A. Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Jeansonne, Whitney Cropper, Dr. George Bourgeois, Dr. Daniel Buller, Dr. F. Lionel Mayer, Lee Halphen Richard "Dickie" Hollier. Visitation will be observed from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today and will continue from 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, until time for the service. A rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. this evening.
