Merle C. Weber, 89, passed away on May 7, in Phoenix, Arizona. He was born June 25, 1924, at the family farm near Lewisville, Ohio. He was the fifth of the seven children of Solomon and Ora Crum Weber. He graduated from Lewisville High School in 1941 and, along with four of his five brothers, served in the military during WWII. He was a fighter pilot flying P40s and P47s after graduating from pilot training at Williams Field at Chandler, Arizona. Merle was married to Ella Mae Emch on August 8, 1946, and was a dairy farmer before engaging in commercial and industrial construction. He founded Valley Industrial Park in Ohio. He moved to Arizona in 1980 and was a construction manager for a retirement community for five years before retiring. He was active in church and community affairs for many years.
He is survived by son Benjamin; daughters Mary (George) Saylor, Ruth (Ron) Elwardt, Faye (Peter) Flynn, and Fran (Jim) Perry; grandchildren Megan (Erick) Holm, Becca (Craig) Devereaux, Sarah and Mary Flynn, and Chase Sapp; great-grandsons Bradley and Caleb Holm; and brother Ed of Lakeland, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Ella Mae; his daughter, Lora Lee; his sister and five brothers.
Memorial services will be held on May 24 at 2 p.m. at Camelback Bible Church in Paradise Valley, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Phoenix or to Honor Flight Arizona.[The Monroe County Beacon - Woodsfield, OH - May 22, 2014]
