WAYLAND - Mercedes Lorch Nichols, 83, passed away early Monday morning (Aug. 16, 2004) at her home of 310 Granger Rd., Wayland.
Mercedes was born April 23, 1921, in Rochester, the daughter of John and Eva (Emery) Lorch. She resided in the Rochester area for the early years of her life. Mercedes and John William Nichols entered into a loving marriage on Nov. 6, 1954. Together they celebrated over 36 years of marriage prior to John's passing in March 1990. Prior to moving to Wayland approximately 21 years ago, Mercedes and John lived in many different areas throughout their life. Those areas included Livonia, Greece and Hemlock. Mercedes' employment career included many years at two different companies. She worked for the Stromberg Carlson Telephone Company and for Kodak. Mercedes was fortunate to retire from both of those companies after many years of employment.
Quilting, reading and cats were among some of Mercedes' joys. She also enjoyed her trips to Reno, Nev., to spend time with her grandchildren and frequent a casino once in a while.
Mercedes was predeceased in life by her beloved husband of 36 years, John William Nichols.
Mercedes is survived by her sons, Timothy Sawyer and his wife Eleanor of Fairport; and William Nichols and his wife Robyn of Reno, Nev.; her daughters, Sharon Sawyer Dunn and her husband Oliver of Virginia Beach, Va.; Jacqueline L. Nichols of Wayland; her grandchildren, John W. Nichols, Jennifer A. Nichols, Roger Pierce, Marsha Becker, Shawn (Laurie) Victa, Seth (Beth) Dunn, LeeAnn (Tony) Regna; three great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; her brother, Raymond Lorch and his wife Norma of Webster; along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mercedes' funeral service will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions in memory of Mercedes L. Nichols may be made to the Wayland Ambulance Corps., East Naples Street, Wayland, N.Y. 14572.
The St. George-Stanton Funeral Home, 109 West Naples St., Wayland, has assisted Mercedes' family with her funeral service arrangements.
