Funeral services for Marvin "Bud" Rossow, age 87, of Herreid will be at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mound City. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be from 11-4 Friday at the funeral home and starting at 6 PM at the church with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Bud passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
Marvin "Bud" August Rossow was born on October 6, 1923, to Alfred and Bertha (Bogenhagen) Rossow. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Herreid. Bud attended grade school and high school in Herreid, graduating in 1941. Following graduation Bud farmed with his father.
On May 23, 1948, he married Violet Mitzel at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mound City. They made their home on his family farm. In the spring of 1983 they moved into Herreid and Bud continued farming with his son Ross until the early 2000's. Bud lived in Herreid until the spring of 2004 when he entered the Selby Good Samaritan Center.
Bud was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He was very active in the church serving as president of the church council for many years. He was also county chairman of the Republican Party and served as delegate to the Republican State Convention for several years. He enjoyed his time he spent farming and also the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Ross (friend, Peggy Outka) of Piedmont and Troy (Sue) of Eagan, MN; four grandchildren, Tracy (Bob) Volk of Herreid, Sheri Rossow of Riverton, WY, Jesse Rossow of Rapid City, Sarah Rossow of Hanover, NH; six great grandchildren, Erika, Adam, Jacob, David, Dylan, and Destiny, two sisters, Irene Bickel of Aberdeen, and Elva (Floyd) Baumann of Selby.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Violet on April 26, 2005, and a sister, Alice Young.
