Hello Ursula,
I am also a teacher. I teach Biology and Environmental Science in
Jacksonville, Texas.
My dad, James Ridley Thomas, was born Jan. 19, 1922. He was the second son
of Iona Dashbach Raser and Harry L. Thomas. He had 5 brothers. Your
website mentions two. My dad?s older brother was Harry, but I don?t know
his middle name or birth/death dates. After John (whom we called Jack)
came Robert and then Richard. All but Richard served in World War II in
the Pacific. All have died except Daniel. He still lives in Kentucky,
where they were all born. My dad died June 10, 1981 of lung cancer. He
married Virginia Nell Petty (my mom), but I don?t know the date. He was an
M.D. and graduated from University of Kentucky, but I don?t know what
year. They had 4 children; Michael Ridley Thomas, Martha Kathleen Thomas
(Clark), Paula Marie Thomas (Ruffin), and me, Laura Ann Thomas (Cook). We
all have children, but I don?t know if you want all those names and dates.
We have no information on Iona?s husband, Harry L. Thomas, my grandfather.
He was orphaned when he was 10, and taken in by a couple when he was a
teenager. Here is what my sister found and sent to me:
?Mimi's father was French - Christian John Raser (sounded like Raser - at
Ellis Island since he spoke French & German), and he relocated to
Pennsylvania and met Mimi's mother - Rose Dashbach. She was a chambermaid
in a hotel. Her family has relatives in Ferdinand, Indiana (Oscher, and
Lindenberger).?
I am so pleased to know that someone is interested in tracing our family
history. My brother and sisters know more about specific dates, etc., so
if you are interested, just let me know and I will do my best to find out.
